RE: NC x pages

edit

These all need redirects to the appropriately named pages. I also believe that we are moving all current articles from the "North Carolina State Highway x" format to the "North Carolina Highway x" format. Its a hassle, but IMHO, all of the following pages should redirect to whatever we decide is the official naming convention. This should include:

North Carolina Route x
Route x (North Carolina)
NC x
North Carolina State Highway x
North Carolina Highway x
Highway x (North Carolina)

The problem is, with all of the different naming conventions from state to state, EACH state needs to set up a full set of redirects to its OFFICIALY named site for each route, especially keeping in mind that what in one state is called a "Route" in another state is called a "State Road" and in another state is called a "Highway". I am not very knowledgible about these things, but could someone set up a bot to create these redirects? That might help. --Jayron32 04:26, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

This is one of the many issues being addressed at WP:SRNC. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 04:28, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it's annoying, but necessary. I created this Completion List to help with the redirects. I only listed the first few routes so I could get the organization down pat and to give us a chance to find which redirects we need to do before I go and do a bunch of copy/paste. If there are any that were left out that you feel are common enough to go in there, add 'em. PLEASE, do not mass move the pages and do not make mass redirects yet! Fixing double redirects is a pain and moving pages to pages that already exist is a huge pain. I only moved NC 2 as a test and all seemed to go well, so we're all set for the work. Now we just have to wait on WP:SRNC to finish up. A bot would be nice and I think they're working on that now. =) --TinMan 04:36, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Status of Moves

edit

What is the current status of the page moves. I understand that it seems like a tedious process and would like to help on it as I am taking a break on NCSH page building (Got nearly all of the 1 county roads done so the rest of it will get more challenging). I noticed the Completion list above but was kind of confused by it. Can someone build a simple chart that lists what needs to be done? An example would be having all of the NCSH's running down the side (For simplicity sake, only list pages that have been moved and than add to it), than along the top all of the associated housekeeping that needs to occur to make the rest of it happen. I failed to jump on the page move bandwagon otherwise I would have done it but I would be willing to help where needed! Rob110178 19:47, 6 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

US Highway 17 in North Carolina

edit

Can someone provide assistance in clarification. In Onslow County, NC a new bypass was built for US 17. It is not signed as US 17 but should be mentioned. Can someone provide some research on this so that it can be accurately updated? Rob110178 09:43, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't look like it's been completed for US 17 traffic: [1] --NE2 23:51, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think the current way the information is presented on the article page is fine as it is. --MPD01605 (T / C) 00:11, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
There are no links on the current list to former highways whose numbers have been reused. Have a look at List of primary state highways in Virginia to see how these would be handled. --NE2 00:38, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps a separate article entitled "List of former North Carolina Highways" would be better suited. Or even just "Former North Carolina Highways". It would keep article length down while still providing the information. --MPD01605 (T / C) 00:52, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
If they're all together, it's easier to look through and see which routes were around in the 1920s. Article length isn't a problem if we separate the list from the explanations. --NE2 01:15, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Creating page for list of NC State Highways

edit

What does everyone think about creating a page for a list of NCSHs? I think it would help to clean the article up and keep it a managable size. What does everyone else think? Rob110178 01:25, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think it's fine as it is. The article is manageable. --MPD01605 (T / C) 01:42, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

2nd-Largest State Highway System?

edit

I believe the "North Carolina has the second largest state maintained highway network in the United States" statement is incorrect. According to this June 2007 study NC has the largest network, not the 2nd-largest. - Presidentman (talk) Random Picture of the Day 14:48, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

There is a table showing all 50 state's mileage of state highway networks on pg. 8 of the mentioned study. - Presidentman (talk) Random Picture of the Day 14:48, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Actually the table is on pg. 14. - Presidentman (talk) Random Picture of the Day 14:58, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wow, that's a lot of roads. Well, I'll update that. --MPD T / C 15:28, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

NC 248?

edit

The main page says NC 248 will be completed in 2010. Anyone know what project this is? I can't seem to find information on it anywhere. I don't know where they are building this new highway or how long it will be or anything. Can anyone enlighten me? --Triadian (talk) 03:26, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I went ahead and removed it. I did a google search and a google news search for every permutation of NC 248, North Carolina 248, NC Highway 248, Route 248, etc. etc. I found nothing at all. If someone finds a source, please feel free to return it... --Jayron32 04:23, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Removed I-20

edit

I have removed the recent addition of a future I-20. North Carolina has done a few "feasibility studies" but there have been no firm plans to extend I-20 in North Carolina, not the least of which is the fact that South Carolina has absolutely no plans in the works to do so; both states are working harder at extending I-73 and I-74; any I-20 extension is purely speculative at this point. --Jayron32 03:11, 15 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
