Not monorails edit

Detroit People Mover is not a Monorail. It is an elevated 2-track train. Oydman 01:38, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

London Gatwick Airport People Mover is not a Monorail. It is an elevated 2-track train manufactured by Bombardier. dygituljunky (talk) 08:31, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

French monorail edit

Vacationing in France, I stumbled upon a seemingly discommissioned monorail track, that seemed to have run from Orléans to Paris. I think it should be included on this page, but I cannot find any information on this track. Does anyone know more about this track? See http://picasaweb.google.com/ziggyziggyziggy/VakantieFrankrijkJuli2008/photo#5224848754781211794 for a picture and the location. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ziggyziggyziggy (talkcontribs) 16:25, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

This was the Aérotrain. Matthew Brown (Morven) (T:C) 10:44, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

New Discussion edit

A discussion has been started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Countries/Lists of countries which could affect the inclusion criteria and title of this and other lists of countries. Editors are invited to participate. Pfainuk talk 13:42, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rules for the list edit

Gah, this is such a mess. A few proposals:

  • Single-station "toy" monorails should be excluded.
    • I would exclude these on the criteria of open cars as some have two stations. I don't see why these can't be put on their own page. I added a note already, at the opening, that list does not include people carrying slope cars, farm or mining monorails Tjej (talk) 14:06, 1 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • No monorails can be added to "planned" without a reliable source.
  • Monorails with articles should in format "Name, City, Country", nothing else.
  • Monorails without articles should in format "Name, City, Country", plus a referenced one-sentence description.

I agree with these suggestions. The ==Proposals== sections contains some thought bubble plans while excluding others.
Also I think there should be a list of ===Notable but unrealised proposals=== for things like the "Liverpool to Manchester Bher monorail, circa 1900" which is included and UK Ultraspeed which is not currently mentioned. 10:22, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
I agree with the above. Perhaps the "proposals" section should have a visible date. If nothing happens after a period of time I don't see why the page should be a repository for every suggestion. Tjej (talk) 11:06, 18 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposed split of main table edit

I have done an analysis of the list as at 03-Jul-21. I split into systems with Group #1 either one station or open cabins Group #2 everything else (which are the passenger monorails and people movers). The only anomaly by this criteria is "E-DA Theme Park Monorail" which seems should be in group #1.
I propose to split the table with the following headings: Operating passenger monorails 48 entries, Operating monorail rides 34 entries
I think the novelty rides are worth listing since they represent most people's contact with monorails. There are also references to many of these systems on the pages about the location where they are located.
Finally I think the "Operating passenger monorails" should be sorted by length. I can't see any Wikipedia rule that the default sort has to be by country. If someone wants that they can click on the heading. However for someone interested in a list of operating monorails the length of systems is a good measure of its significance.
If there are no objections I will do this at the end of July 2021

Done. I think it is much clearer. Tjej (talk) 00:26, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Orlando Airport? edit

Isn't it a monorail system that connects the main terminal at Orlando Int'l Airport to the gate terminals? I thought it was one, but I won't add it until confirmed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.173.72.201 (talk) 11:38, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, it's an Adtranz C-100 APM. Jpatokal (talk) 14:01, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Gauge edit

If different monorails are of different types (straddle, trough or suspended) with different dimensions of the supports including location of power supplies, then there will be a kind of break of gauge between them, and hence they will be of different gauges. Tabletop (talk) 08:33, 2 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

AFAIK there are no incompatible, overlapping monorail systems anywhere in the world. Ofuna Station, served by two different monorails (one straddle, one suspended), probably came close, but they never operated simultaneously. Jpatokal (talk) 12:09, 3 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Organization and Titles edit

Why is the article separated into public transit and non-public monorails arbitrarily and without detail or explanation? Shouldn't we just have a complete list?

Also, the list of "operational monorails" contains many that are not operational.

addition of Emsland test facility? edit

Farm monorails edit

Also note farm monorails. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=農業用單軌車 . Jidanni (talk) 21:12, 1 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Here is an older farm monorail: Monorails in Central Java. Wikipedia could have a page about farm and industrial monorails. There are a number of pages devoted to or mentioning the historic systems - Lizza di Piastreta, Louden_Machinery_Company#Industrial_applications_for_Louden_Monorail, Gloddfa Ganol. Tjej (talk) 01:57, 25 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
There are also a significant number of mining monorails and [industrial monorails]. Tjej (talk) 09:48, 26 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
The Japanese wikipedia Monorail page has a section on "industrial monorails" that could be adapted for use here. Tjej (talk) 09:30, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Remove "Notes" column edit

At this time, only 18% of the Operational Monorails have any Notes. It seems that only the relatively unimportant monorails have substantial notes. I would like to remove the Notes column to improve the readability of the whole table.

Info from Notes should be moved to the monorail's article (linked from its Name). Some monorails don't have a full article, so we'll need to make new articles for them. When all info from the Notes column has been duplicated, we can delete it! Nialsh (talk) 21:14, 7 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

This is done. I finished moving all the info from "Notes" into the individual articles linked in the "Name" column. And then I deleted the Notes column. Nialsh (talk) 18:08, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
