Talk:List of minor Resident Evil characters

Eliza Warren? edit

Can someone tell me in which part of the game it is revealed that that's the name of the blonde woman? I've checked the games files, but that name does not appear in any of them, neither in anything that I'd remember.

If some information is not shown, I will eventually change her name to Beverly Harris, like the novel states.

No idea. I've seen nothing on it, although Beverly Harris is not her actual name, either, so it should be reverted back to Ms. Warren unless the person who put the name in can cite sources. It's always possible it came from one of the latter releases for the N64 or DreamCast. Gamer Junkie 08:07, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
But there's nothing in either the original version nor the files of the lastest versions. And considering that she is named Beverly Harris in the novel, I guess it is possible to say that that's her name. (Alexlayer 10:16, 23 October 2006 (UTC))Reply
You'd have to be sure to add that the name is taken from the novels, because these novels have, on many instances, proven non-linear to the game's storyline and characters. Gamer Junkie 13:39, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Done. Whenever someone want to revert it, s/he might better bring some source. Alexlayer 19:37, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The entries need rewriting edit

They've all been written far too dramatically for an encyclopedia entry. --Bisected8 12:11, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Is that your personal opinion? Or is there some guideline that says entries must be written in dull context by apathetic editors? Gamer Junkie 14:41, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Its my opinion AFAIK. If you want dramatic writing then read a book, not an encyclopedia --Bisected8 19:14, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
The only seriously dramatic section in the article appears to have already been altered by you, so why don't you list the sections that are still bothering you and we'll see what we can come up with to appease your disdain for passionate writing. Gamer Junkie 21:02, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't disdain creative writing, I disdain its misuse. It is after all "creative". Encyclopedia entries need to give strait facts, not drama.--Bisected8 23:37, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well re-writing them yourself rather than complaining would be more productive, no? Parjay 10:43, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I thought it would be more productive to point out my objection as well as make the changes myself in order to help with future edits.--Bisected8 12:09, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

You still haven't highlighted or pointed out the sections that are supposedly too dramatic for your tastes. Gamer Junkie 12:56, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

He basically saying what the WP:Fiction states. This article doesn't follow the guidelines about writing about fiction. They treat the characters as real people rather than video game characters. In addition, they also mix up information about the novels and treat them as canon to the games. Either way, this list won't be of further use. All the on-screen characters had been redirected to their proper game-specific lists and the ones that hasn't are just unseen characters that only served to fill in backstory or ridiculously minor characters not really worth mentioning. I doubt people are interested to know more about the Mayor's dead daughter, the zombie from the closet or Chopper Mike. Jonny2x4 05:16, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
You don't get to decide who is interested in which characters and who isn't, Jonny, that seems to be a concept you're not grasping. And he isn't talking about WP:FICT at all. What he's saying is that it isn't being told from a detached and neutral perspective, although that is a matter of opinion, and the reason I have insisted on asking that he highlight the areas he finds "dramatic." You seem to be utilising specific points of each guideline whilst ignoring those you don't like, Jonny. As I recall, another editor mentioned a criterion regarding the Outbreak character articles fair use of information on WP:FICT on your talk page, to which you have ignored. For the record, I find the minor characters to be interesting. Without them, you'd have a single character-focused piece of rubbish with no plot or depth, as proven by Resident Evil 4. Gamer Junkie 05:31, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
It seems you're the one who's not paying close attention. I never said no one was interested in the minor characters of the series. First of all, you'll notice that the info about Dario, Tyrell and Murphy had been moved to Characters in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, making their presence in this article somewhat redundant. Hence I removed them, yet you reverted my edits twice.
Secondly, Bisected8 was complaining about the dramatic tone of the article and how they're not encyclopedic. And he's absolutely right. They don't read like encyclopedic articles. They feel like biographies from a fansite.
And finally, since nearly every on-screen game=specific character has been moved to their respective lists, the only ones are mostly unseen characters like Jessica Trevor and Michael Warren or unnamed characters. Looking at who we have left, we got:
  • Jessica Trevor - Not much to say about her that isn't covered at the George and Lisa Trevor articles. Those articles aren't very good either, since they basically just recap what is said about them in Trevor's Diary from REmake and Wesker's Report II. Personally I'm considering of merging all three characters into one article.
  • John - A researcher from RE1 later revealed to be Ada's boyfriend in RE2. Not much to say after that.
  • Peter - A ridiculously minor character who is just a random enemy zombie. Is Peter even his actual name at all? The name Peter only appeared on the diary's vaguely readable cover in the PlayStation version (got removed in the GameCube version) and does not even appear in the document itself. Might as well list all of the mansion's dead researchers while we're at it.
  • The Mayor's daughter - Unnamed character who gets killed off by Brian Irons. Not backstory other than her relation to the Mayor. Could be merge to the RE2 list, but why bother?
  • Michael Warren - Very prominent background character in RE3, but not really a major element to the plot. Might move him to the RE3 list.
  • Edward and Alexander Ashford - might cover them in Code: Veronica characters, seeing how they're important to the plot and Alexander technically does appear in the game (even if it's only as Nosferatu).
  • Ingrid - Already in the RE4 page.
  • Mike - Minor character from RE4 with no backstory who appears for like five minutes and gets killed off after that.
  • Leon's Police Escort - Not names or back stories at all. Just two unnamed characters that are killed off in the beginning of the game.
  • Merchant - Cotributes to the gameplay of RE4, but adds nothing to the narrative. Might add him to the RE4.
As you can see, there's no one really notable left (aside from the Ashfords) on this list that isn't covered elsewhere.Jonny2x4 07:26, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I assure you, I am paying very close attention and you're still deciding which characters are relevant and which are not. I reverted your edits twice because you didn't even discuss these new articles. I had no idea they even existed, so what did you expect? Gamer Junkie 13:41, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I would assume that you would've known, seeing how I blanked Irons, Ben, Marvin and Robert from the list, but you didn't bother to revert them like you did with the RE3 and RECV subsections.

Either way, this isn't a matter of opinion. There's really no one notable left other than the off-screen characters. Eventually, this is gonna grow into a list of non-notable, unnamed extras from the games. I'm surprised no one listed the undead trucker and fat cop from RE2 yet. You haven't even bothered making an argument as to why we should keep this list, but passing off my comments as mere whining from my part.

You complained to me when I make changes without prior notice to an article (like you did with when I edited List of minor STARS members in Resident Evil), but at the same time you complain to another user for making a legit complain about this article beforehand, passing of his opinion as mere whining rather acknoledging his opinion as valid. That seems to completely contradictory from your part. Jonny2x4 20:08, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

What the hell are you talking about? I never accused him of whining. I don't agree with him, but that doesn't mean I'm not attempting to reach a compromise. If I hadn't acknowledged his opinion as valid, I wouldn't be asking him to list the sections he wants re-written. Are you even reading these posts? If I didn't revert the other characters you mentioned, it's because I wasn't aware that I had left them out, and because I was unaware of how you are going about this "clean-up," simple as that.
