Talk:List of minor Avatar: The Last Airbender characters

Latest comment: 13 years ago by Codehydro in topic Pending Merger

No, I didn't write the material for this article, but got it from an older version of the TV series' main article: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Avatar:_The_Last_Airbender_characters&oldid=376284657. The person I seem to have got it from got it from a public wiki, so it should all be public domain anyhow? -- CodeHydro 17:40, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

There are at least two different sites from which this content has been copied. This is unwanted. — Timneu22 · talk 17:42, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your second source thanks wikipedia for the information here: http://winxclub-pixies.piczo.com/?g=44739768&cr=5 so it's not infringing them. Cartoon watcher does seem to claim some of the information as theirs, though give me a second to look at what is copied from them. -- CodeHydro 17:47, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Even so, there are all sorts of problems with this page. In addition to the tags cited, this appears to violate WP:INDISCRIMINATE. — Timneu22 · talk 17:53, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well, good news is that some of it so far actually contains different information than in the sites noted so far... still looking through them. As for what you said about indiscriminate info, I was just making this page based off the template of List_of_minor_Buffy_the_Vampire_Slayer_characters. This seems no less indiscriminate than that established page? -- CodeHydro 18:00, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
As reviewing administrator, I did not delete it, since it is not an undoubted copyvio from a single source. DGG ( talk ) 19:38, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:CSD G4 edit

First, the information here has been greatly reworked since it was removed from the main page. Second, it was removed from the Avatar main page because it made it too bulky. Third, there was no discussion about deletion. ---CodeHydro 16:37, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

This article is a spitting image of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Avatar: The Last Airbender major secondary characters (2nd nomination), where consensus was to delete. Most of this information is in-universe plot summary with no third-party sources. — Parent5446 (msg email) 16:42, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Read the reason for deleting. They were deleting it because the information was redundant and already listed in List_of_Avatar:_The_Last_Airbender_characters. That was this old version. This version has no overlap with the major characters list as far as I can tell. ---CodeHydro 16:45, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
The articles were not just deleted because the information was redundant, they were deleted because the information was redundant and did not deserve its own article. The minor characters are not notable outside of the fictional universe, and do not meet general notability guidelines. If they belong anywhere at all, it is in the main characters article, and their inclusion there is a dispute in and of itself. But I can say with confidence that this article is an exact replica of the type of content that was deleted in the List of major secondary characters, even if the information itself is not exactly the same. — Parent5446 (msg email) 17:33, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
If this page doesn't deserve its own article then perhaps you ought to delete everything else on the Category:Lists_of_minor_fictional_characters category. I am not a fan of avatar myself, but I've certainly heard about it much more often than most of the things in that category. ---CodeHydro 18:06, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I would go ahead and start deleting and/or merging many of the articles in that category. — Parent5446 (msg email) 22:43, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
As reviewing administrator, I declined the speedy, because G4 does not work by analogy, nor does Wikipedia necessarily work by precedent. However, given related AfDs, I would be quite surprised if the page were kept after AfD, and I strongly advise that the page either be specifically sourced from something written about the series in the next day or two--it's the only real chance. Otherwise, I'd advise you to userify it by moving it to a subpage of your user page, or ask me to do so. DGG ( talk ) 22:03, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Good source first first few episodes edit

Well, cited a few of the reviews found here: http://www.denofgeek.com/_tag/342/0/0/25/Avatar%20The%20Last%20Airbender/. Good resource if anybody else feels like helping :) Will do more another day.---CodeHydro 00:37, 1 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just a heads up. few of the sources you put here are normally considered to be unreliable to some such as IMDb and TV.com becuase they can be edited on just like Wikipedia. Jhenderson777 (talk) 13:52, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, they're just temporary sources until better ones are found. Plus there are others such as IGN which are good. Also, IMDB.com search function for characters is a very good way to find a list of which episodes to the characters appear in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Codehydro (talkcontribs) 15:13, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Pending Merger edit

Seems like the deletion discussion is inevitably going towards merging. As for selecting characters, I think it's fair to keep nearly all if not all of them because most have been verified to have made at least 3 different appearances within the franchise. The only thing is that some of their in-universe descriptions could be shortened. —CodeHydro 23:38, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
