Talk:List of mezzo-sopranos in non-classical music

This list is totally unreliable edit

A lot of singers listed here clearly do not belong to the Mezzo-Soprano vocal fach. Leona Lewis is Light Lyric Soprano, Jennifer Hudson is a Spinto Soprano, Whitney Houston for most of her career was a Spinto Soprano and only through aging and damage became a Mezzo, Aretha Franklin is a Falcon Soprano, Taylor Swift is a Light Lyric Soprano, Michelle Williams is a Soprano as well. Why in the world do you use divadevotee.com as a relible source? It's a fanpage run by a vocal enthusiast, not an expert. You need to find an expert in vocal pedagogy to audit this page because as it is right now, it's a disaster. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 181.29.155.200 (talk) 21:44, 19 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Removed Names edit

Due to totally unreliable sourcing from both Youtube and A questions and answers site. Please re-add when a reliable source stating her range can be found. BrotherDarksoul(talk) 22 November 2011, 17:18 UTC

Photo layout edit

  • Actually, this photo layout is really not helpful and makes the page look like a poorly designed website rather than an encyclopedia article. The reader has to scroll past a whole screenload of images before they can even get to the list. Plus, images of this size seriously increase the loading time for readers on slow internet connections and cause problems for the visually impaired using screen readers. (Note: I am not visually impaired, have a very large screen and a fast internet connection.) And why are they presented in this unwieldy and non-standard table format with empty caption spaces appearing beneath them, further confusing and cluttering the layout? What is wrong with following Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Images and placing them down the right-hand side at intervals, in smaller sizes, with standard captions below the image as also recommended by Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility? Or alternatively if you all insist on grouping them horizontally like this, using the standard gallery format? Voceditenore (talk) 08:10, 17 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions for list edit

I have added Anni-Frid Lyngstad aka Frida. Have included a reliable reference source from the many that have her vocal range. There are numerous articles about her being a mezzo-soprano and how her voice blended with the soprano of Agnetha Faltskog singing with ABBA. Surprised she wasn't already listed.

I would strongly suggest that Barbara Dickson and Karen Carpenter belong on this list - and I have very sensitive hearing!Smlark (talk) 22:12, 17 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Karen Carpenter is a contralto.LizFL (talk) 15:38, 7 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Was a contralto. She passed away in 1983.FreeSpirit80 (talk) 02:39, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Awful page edit

The majority of these singers do not belong to the vocal fach, just because someone asserts they do on the internet does not mean they are reliable, this page is a joke — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.7.197.195 (talk) 00:40, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Alizée edit

Alizée should be removed from this list. The cited article includes remarks about her "register" and "timbre" but does not specify her voice as mezzo-soprano. Original research indicates she is a contralto. 74.70.207.12 (talk) 05:34, 13 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

So fix it. - SummerPhDv2.0 12:17, 13 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
I agree and removed her from the list. --Whitetabor (talk) 11:02, 15 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Converting layout to table edit

Hello,

I've recently done some work on the List of contraltos in non-classical music and the list of basses in non-classical music pages, both of which I've formatted to tables, and I think this page, along with the others like it (sopranos, baritones, etc.) would benefit. You can see the aforementioned pages for examples, but it is not only more readable and organized, but it allows for a bit more information (such as lifespan, nationality, and the associated musical acts for the individuals who are parts of bands), but there is more room for pictures along the right-hand side of the page, as well as a streamlined column for each reference. I could start doing work on this myself, but it is quite a bit of work, so any help would be great. Thanks! --Drown Soda (talk)

Hello Drown Soda, I did have a click on there after having been absent from monitoring and editing these pages for quite some time and was wholly impressed with the new look. It's much tidier looking to the eye than the lists with columns I must say. I would be up for helping you out. I am happy to start tackling the soprano page in the next couple of weeks if you'd like? Although the page has a huge abundance of names so might take me a wee while. Give me a shout and let me know what you think. Kind regards. BrotherDarksoul Blether 21 October 2017, 11:13 UTC

Orphaned references in List of mezzo-sopranos in non-classical music edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of mezzo-sopranos in non-classical music's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

  • From Celine Dion: "Celine Dion – Making Album Let's Talk About Love". YouTube. 7 December 2011. Retrieved 18 April 2014.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 17:05, 3 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

References issue edit

I was trying to look at the references for Dua Lipa being a mezzo-soprano. The links on the right side of the table in her row are not correct. But if I look at the edit page, the first reference in her row is a good one. Then I can't find it in the references in the article. No idea why this is happening so I thought I'd post here.
