A comment and a question: rats in Antananarivo

edit

When I arrived in Tana very late at night (or rather, very early in the morning!), I saw a rat run across the road in front of the taxi.

I discovered that Ship Rat Rattus rattus occurs in the country.

Comment: This list does not include Rattus rattus, presumably because it is not a native species; however, the page title says nothing about "native"

Question: Do any of the native rats (or any other introduced rats) venture into the cities of Madagascar?

Thanks

These list articles are supposed to avoid introduced species. Generally, anywhere humans live, the black and/or brown rats (R. rattus and R. norvegicus) will be present. As for native rodents, it's doubtful that they would be found living in human cities since they would be adapted to the wilds of Madagascar *and* they would have to compete directly with the highly successful introduced species. Sorry, but I don't have time to check any sources. – Maky « talk » 18:15, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
The opening sentence of the article stipulates that it is a list of native species. WolfmanSF (talk) 19:27, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
