SS in California documents after County name

I've been interpreting in courts since 1995 and producing certified translations since 1990, certified both directions and a language degree from a 4-year U. and this is not a trick question. Confronted with a California document with SS. after close curly brace at the top I am unconvinced that this is scilicet, could be persuaded that this is section sign as improvised by someone unfamiliar with Alt codes. Still, l am baffled that it is too much trouble to write it out in the four inches of available white space on the CA form or that no other Wikipedia editor has penetrated the hermeticism and added it to the list.

It is tempting, when confronted by bureaucratic arrogance, to fill it in as Schutzstaffel. But on second thought, given their attitude, it might be best not to give them ideas.

So for the record: can anyone say what Santa Clara County has in mind when it puts SS. on a one-page multipurpose declaration form? If this can be ascertained it would make a useful addition. --Interpreter, translator (talk) 01:41, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
