Care to justify this page? Charles Matthews 09:37, 14 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

This page was created to serve as an external link dummy location for List of largest suspension bridges. The text is an error message. Go to List of largest suspension bridges and click on one of the numbered external references with an asterisk to see how it is used. Also, please see the discussion here. -- Samuel Wantman 09:41, 14 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

As I noted on Samuel Wantman's talk page, I think this is a bad idea. Wikipedia shouldn't have confusing pages like this in the article space. If there is a glitch that prevents external links from working in some case, leave out the links (which are secondary features of wikipedia) until the glitch is fixed. To me, this is no different from a newbie who creates an article and puts "I'll come back later and write something" as the text. - DavidWBrooks 12:28, 14 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
On the face of it, I think the speedy deletion of this page was justified. Charles Matthews 15:26, 14 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

If and when [http://] again creates a numbered link I'd be happy to remove this page. Until then, I'd appreciate any positive suggestions anyone may have as to how to create a self-numbered table, some of which have external links. Would it be better if I moved this page to my own user space (like User:SamuelWantman/no link yet) and have a redirect from this page? -- Samuel Wantman 21:34, 14 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

That certainly seems better to me, in that it moves a "working" page out of the article space. - DavidWBrooks 00:13, 15 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean by "working"? This page is how I intend it to be. I have no plans to change this page. I doubt that all the bridges have home pages that could be linked. -- Samuel Wantman 00:56, 15 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
