Cunnard has repeatedly stated that QM2 is not a cruise ship but an ocean liner. I'm not sure if there actually is any difference except Cunard wanting something they spent so much money on to be "the largest". But, on the other hand, is there an official differentiation between ocean liners and cruise ships? Nomad (talk) 03:33, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

There may be a difference in insurance class. Ocean liners (like the QM2) are less beamy, have deeper draft, less of a square profile underwater, and much much thicker steel bodies (because occasionally they run into ice in the North Atlantic). On the other hand Cunard does offer packages on the QM2 that are cruises. Embark and disembark from the same city and spend 4,5,7,or 10 days hopping from tourist trap to tourist trap. --Opcnup (talk) 21:21, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

I like this list

I like this list because in my opinion, it is correct to consider twin ships in only one place, such as Oasis class-consisting in two ships-in number one, and Freedom class-which are three twin ships- in number three. Beam

In quite many cases, the beam given is the extreme width of the vessel, usually measured from the bridge wings. Are we sure that this is the case with all ships, or do some display the e.g. beam of the hull at waterline? I think this should be pointed out in the article to avoid misunderstandings. For example, Oasis of the Sea's beam is given as "213 feet (65 m)" while the hull is only 47 metres wide.

Personally I would prefer giving the beam of the hull instead of maximum width at bridge wings. Tupsumato (talk) 08:47, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

What about the height above the water level?

Some of these ships are humongous and they seem to keep getting taller and taller (height above the water line). Is that information available anywhere? Ileanadu (talk) 02:45, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Height above waterline is not usually given in e.g. classification society databases, so it can not be systematically searched for all ships. However, it can be often found from other publications. Tupsumato (talk) 04:33, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned references in List of the world's largest cruise ships

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of the world's largest cruise ships's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Order of tied ships?

Currently, the order of ships that are "tied" (have the same gross tonnage) is inconsistent. Is there any consensus as to how they should be listed? Oldest first? Newest first? Alphabetical? --Ahecht (TALK

Automatic Ordering not working

The last 3 columns (Staterooms, Double Capacity and Max Capacity) don't seem to order themselves properly when I click the arrows at the top of the list. The first few are correct but the rest are a bit random. Does anyone know how to fix this problem so the automatic order will work correctly? Royboymaps (talk) 22:12, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

Fourth (and fifth) Oasis-class ships in Future Ships

As of 19 September 2014 there have been NO details released about the size of the 4th Oasis-class ship from Royal Caribbean. Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas were both 225,282GT, and Oasis 3 is planned to be 227,700GT, but it is not known whether Oasis 4 will be the size of the original ships, the size of Oasis 3, or even larger. The various sources that have been inserted here either cite 225,282 OR 227,700, but if you read them carefully they are actually referring to the size of Oasis and Allure (such as this one) or to Oasis 3 (such as this one). Since we don't know the size, we can't say whether it should be #1 and Oasis 3 #2, whether it should be tied for #1, or whether it should be #2. There's no rush to include it in this table, as it won't be sailing for four years, so lets wait until we have verifiable information. --Ahecht (TALK

This also applies to the fifth Oasis-class ship. As of May 2016, there have been no details released on the size of the ship other than that it is planned. Since the previous ships have been different sizes (three and four are larger than one and two), any size we list prior to an official announcement is just WP:SPEC. Without a size, we cannot place it accurately on this list. Once a size is announced officially by Royal Caribbean or the shipyard, we can include it here. --Ahecht (TALK

Double vs Max Capacity

@12.228.174.34: The 16k number was the result of vandalism by an anonymous editor from Australia, and has been fixed. Double occupancy is simply the number of guest rooms multiplied by two. Maximum occupancy assumes that some rooms have more than two occupants, and is usually determined by safety officials based on factors such as the number of lifeboats. --Ahecht (TALK
