Honorary appointments included? edit

King Saud of Saudi Arabia, Ali of Hejaz, and Abdullah I of Jordan? 87.101.224.234 (talk) 14:24, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is this list meant to include ALL recipients, or just ones with substantive knighthoods? We have Ignacy Jan Paderewski, whose GBE was honorary. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 13:31, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't see why honorary recipients shouldn't be included. They're still Knights Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire. Opera hat (talk) 18:50, 11 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

John Paul Tabios edit

John Paul Tabios does not appear on the 2013 New Year Honours list which is also the only 2013 list so far. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 06:01, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tidy-up needed edit

There seem to be several non-GBEs in this list, either by misunderstanding of the honours system, or by misreading CBE as GBE, or by outright vandalism. I suggest that each name which is red-linked or unlinked should reference the London Gazette page showing the award. Not all red-linked names are incorrect: for example, some are Lord Mayors of London – they used to be routinely made GBE (no longer) – who maybe aren't otherwise notable enough to have their own articles.
I've made a start with the three most recent decades. If I've inadvertently deleted a name which should be there but has evaded my searches, please accept my apology and put it back with a reference. Thanks. Angusta (talk) 16:05, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Michael Bloomberg edit

Michael Bloomberg is KBE according to his page. --Акутагава (talk) 10:08, 17 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

His award is honorary as he is not British -- no "Sir", just postnomials. Quis separabit? 11:25, 17 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Акутагава is correct, Bloomberg is honorary KBE not GBE, so I've taken him off this list of GBEs. Angusta (talk) 13:20, 17 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dating edit

Is the date of conferral for a knighthood the date of the gazetting or that of conferral at the Palace? As things now stand, GBEs given in the New Year's Honours List are listed in the next year, and not for the year in which the Warrant, as dated in the London Gazette, is issued.

New Year Honours are announced a few days before the new year – for example, the 2016 honours were in supplements to the London Gazette dated 30 December 2015. An appointment is effective from when it is published in the Gazette. So Sir Stuart Peach, made GBE in the 2016 New Year Honours, technically could be said to have been appointed in 2015. But they're the New Year Honours, obviously associated with the year that begins 1 January, even though the announcement is made two days earlier. So to me it's sensible to list those honours in the new year, not the old year. Also, although the format of the London Gazette has now changed, in the past the Gazette announcing New Year Honours would be dated, say, 30 December but headed 1 January – see for example "No. 44999". The London Gazette (invalid |supp= (help)). (30 December 1969). {{cite magazine}}: Check date values in: |date= (help) announcing the 1970 New Year Honours for the United Kingdom. Again, the intention is clearly to asssociate the honours with the new near, not the old year. Angusta (talk) 09:56, 19 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sir David Attenborough Removal edit

This list is for people who have received the Knight Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (GBE) in 2020 Sir David Attenborough was awarded Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George (GCMG) which is a completely different order. Sir David Attenborough has been awarded a CBE but not a GBE so he should be removed from this list. I shall remove him immediately and I suggest that the writer of this list should double check before adding such things.Peeragemaster589 (talk) 04:18, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
