Question edit

What about the Las Vegas case? http://www.fox5vegas.com/story/20652366/coroner-ids-bodies-of-metro-lieutenant-wife-child Fiveinchheels (talk) 21:05, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

According to the criteria established for these articles, anyone killed by a law enforcement officer qualifies for inclusion in these lists. In the Las Vegas case, the wife and child qualify to be listed (a single entry with two names). The officer's suicide does not qualify. He should be mentioned in the description. --LUOF (talk) 12:26, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nice job. Thanks for the contributions. Every incident you add helps. The incident rate is officially reported at about one or two killings per day. Based on some published info and our own extrapolations, the actual rate is probably closer to three or four killings per day. Contributions to these lists essentially stopped mid-December to mid-January and so we are behind.--LUOF (talk) 12:49, 27 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

New Year edit

I started 2013 with a single page. I'm thinking it will be best to break it out into separate articles per month when the page is longer, perhaps in Feb. Similar situation for the 2013 template.--LUOF (talk) 04:02, 21 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. I should have time to get to modifying that template at some point soon.— alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 20:51, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Weapon used by officer(s) edit

I would like to suggest adding a column to capture the weapon type(s) used by officers in the shootings. My theory is that officer involved shootings are carried out by AR-15 type rifles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.226.101.138 (talk) 23:01, 4 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

While I think that this is good information to provide, I'm not sure that another column is the most appropriate way to do it. From contributing to this article for over a year I would say that this information is not available for the vast majority of cases. If we were to add another column, there are a few other things I would prefer over this (like the officer's name, for example, or the police department to which that officer belonged) but for now I think the columns that we have are sufficient. I encourage you to look up this information for each incident and add it to the description, though. Michellecornelison (talk) 20:06, 8 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Split article? edit

Support split - Article is well over 100 kB, and should be split due to size. Thoughts? --Jax 0677 (talk) 18:14, 30 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, the List of killings by law enforcement officers in the United States, 2012 is split by months. It definitely makes it easier to navigate through me that way. Cyanidethistles (talk) 17:08, 1 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think splitting it in the same way as 2012 is a good plan. I can do it at some point or if anyone else would like to they should go ahead. Michellecornelison (talk) 20:02, 8 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'll split this today. I'm splitting to be organized the same way that the 2012 article is organised. The plan of action is to create the pages for each month, then modify the navigation template, and then modify the main article page. I'll be putting an Under Construction template up, though given that today is the last day of the year, I doubt very much that anything new will be added to the list today.
