Untitled

Three new institute professors were announced today. I have added them to the list. http://newsoffice.mit.edu/2015/chisholm-rivest-thompson-institute-professors-0629 Dalek2point3 (talk) 17:53, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Dead person considered emeritus?

Question: is a dead person considered emeriti? If not, should we add the list of dead faculty who were IPs? Birge 18:04, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, maybe a dead emeritus is considered that, but emeriti is plural. But I am uncertain of the answer to your actual question. Michael Hardy 22:30, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

University Professor

Perhaps this should become a page 'University Professor', and an academic rank above Professor. A Lot of Universities (and Institutes) have the position. - Matthew238 01:03, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

The page titled Distinguished Professor now exists (and links to this page). Michael Hardy 17:52, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

red links

The recently created table had at least five red links for persons whose articles already existed. I've created appropriate redirect pages to the correctly titled pages in those five cases. For all I know, there could be others. Michael Hardy 22:13, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Molina is no longer at MIT

According to this, Mario Molina has moved to UCSD, though this still lists him as Institute Professor Emeritus for some reason. Which category should Molina be in? Emeritus or Former? —Umofomia 06:54, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

MIT's whois still indicates that he holds his title of Institute Professor emeritus. If he's retired, he can still move and go wherever he likes. Madcoverboy (talk) 20:35, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Article name

I came here via Category:Massachusetts Institute of Technology faculty. I can see why this is a featured list—nice work. Nevertheless, I was confused about what to expect when I clicked the link. To quote Wikipedia:Naming conventions (precision), "Article titles give the reader an idea of what they can expect within an article". In view of that guideline and the policy at Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Be precise when necessary ("name an article as precisely as is necessary to indicate accurately its topical scope"), might this article be better entitled "List of Institute Professors at Massachusetts Institute of Technology" ? There are, after all, many other institutes with professors—hence my initial confusion. Regards, Qwfp (talk) 10:41, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

As no-one voiced any disagreement after a week, I've now moved it. Qwfp (talk) 07:55, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Isadore Singer

Added Isadore Singer to the list of Institute Professor Emeritus. The MIT directory lists him as such: http://web.mit.edu/bin/cgicso?options=general&query=isadore+singer —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.48.193.199 (talk) 06:03, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

why are Bizzi and Deutch's names not listed?

Confused as to why the names are redacted. Somebody do that perniciously or is there a reason? 173.75.26.217 (talk) 21:33, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Update—went through history, saw it was obvious vandalism, returned to original names. 173.75.26.217 (talk) 21:48, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
