Harrison Ford/Star Wars edit

There are conflicting reports regarding how much Harrison Ford was paid for The Force Awakens. The Guardian says he was paid $25 million plus a cut of the gross, which would come to $34 million if the film passed $2 billion. Meanwhile Variety says he was paid between $10 million and $20 million.

I think the disparity is due to exchange rates. The Guardian haven't actually sourced the figures themselves, they got them from the Mail on Sunday which give the numbers in sterling: "Insiders say Disney producers were so determined to get the 73-year-old to reprise his role as Han Solo for The Force Awakens that they agreed a £16.7 million fee. Ford will also get a 0.5 per cent share of the film’s gross earnings, which are expected to break records by hitting at least £1.3 billion. It means the actor’s share could be worth £6.5 million."

I am slightly suspicious about this account. The Daily Mail is notorious for fabricating stories (remember the George Clooney incident) and would Disney and Ford really negotiate his salary in sterling? Either way, even if these figures are correct the converted figures don't necessarily reflect what Ford was actually paid because exchange rates fluctuate. Honestly, I am more inclined to believe Variety than the Daily Mail when it comes to Hollyood number crunching. I think we should wait and see what number the Forbes list gives later in the year. Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Aniston edit

An anonymous editor keeps changing the figures for Sandra Bullock and adding Jennifer Aniston. I will deal with Sandra Bullock first.

The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Sandra Bullock would earn at least $70 million from Gravity, including her advance and her royalties. That is her estimated cut from the film's lifetime earnings. On the other hand Forbes states that "Thanks mostly to Gravity, Bullock tops our 2014 list of the highest-earnings actress with an estimated $51 million in earnings between June 2013 and June 2014". This is only a 1-year period and does not represent her entire earnings from the film. Her earnings from Gravity will be spread across several years as it makes money on video and TV. Indeed, the Forbes estimate is largely consistent with THR which states that her share from the box-office amounts "would be more than $50 million, including her upfront payment. But theatrical revenue is just one part of what she'll make, as she also gets a percentage from home video, TV and ancillary revenue." The figures here represent two different things.

As for Jennifer Aniston, Forbes states she earned $31 million across the same period. Again, this is not her earnings for just We're the Millers, with Forbes stating she "also cashed in from endorsement deals with Vitamin Water and Aveeno, a maker of skin care products".

The IP editor is clearly misinterpreting the source. The figures from the Forbes article are for just a single year and take into account all the earnings (films, endorsements etc) from just that period. Earnings from films—especially those where the actor is on a cut—are spread across several years and the Forbes list does not represent all the earning from films released in that period. The Forbes article is quite explicit that these are earnings just between June 2013 and June 2014. Betty Logan (talk) 10:17, 4 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford edit

Mauri96 has altered the figure for Arnold Schwarzenegger and added Harrison Ford. At first glance these seem well-sourced and reasonable edits, but I have reverted them. I think the edit summaries are inadequate so I will give fuller explanations below.

  • In the case of Arnold Schwarzenegger, the source states he received a fee $29,250,000 for Terminator 3, plus a 20% royalty on the worldwide gross over $380 million, with the film ultimately earning $433 million. While 20% of the $53 million difference would effectively take Schwarzenegger's earnings to around $40 million—and this may well be correct—I have concerns as to what the royalty pertains to. For example, are we talking 20% of the box-office receipts, or the net gross i.e. the earnings after the theaters get their share? It is not very clear. The same source is used to give a final salary figure for the likes of Keanu Reeves, Bruce Willis, Tom Cruise and others, but omits the final figure for Schwarzenegger. When I first created the article I also calculated a figure for Schwarzenegger (based on net box-office) but later removed it because I felt there was too much ambiguity. If it were confirmed that the royalty pertained to actual box-office receipts I would agree that we could calculate the figure.
  • In the case of Harrison Ford I am aware that the $34 million figure for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was widely circulated. However, The Guardian did not research this figure themselves, instead quoting a Daily Mail article. The Daily Mail is now proscribed per WP:DAILYMAIL for fabricating stories, so we need to be especially careful when stories originate from that publication. This Variety article debunks the Daily Mail figure and states the true figure was in the $10–20 million range. It is still possible that a share of the gross or a bonus bumped up Ford's final salary but ideally we need a source that confirms what he earned, rather than speculating about what he could earn, and preferably a source independent of the Daily Mail.

I hope this adequately addresses the reasons why I reverted the information. I am just trying to keep this page as factual as possible and the speculation to a minimum. Betty Logan (talk) 16:48, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Highest Paid Actresses? edit

I suggest there should be a creation of a female-specific page for highest paid actresses. There really isn't a compiled list in other places on the internet, and I think users would really benefit from having a centralized list, and perhaps another one to adjust for inflation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.124.124.227 (talk) 21:48, 16 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Highest annual earnings by female edit

Forbes had published highest annual earnings by female actors every year. Some of their earnings were more than many male actors: like Scarlett Johanson in 2019 ($56+ million) Akifur Rahman (talk) 03:52, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

The 2017 Forbes list included both actors and actresses but Forbes split the lists along gender from 2018. PrimeHunter created these lists so I am not sure what his intention was exactly. Obviously having male only lists and excluding actresses is not an option; we have either have to have joint lists or separate lists for actors and actresses. I have incorporated actresses into the charts with the appropriate sources for now; if PrimeHunter feels it would be better to have dedicated actor and actress lists then I will leave that decision to him. Betty Logan (talk) 06:40, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
The combined 2017 top-10 has no women and I simply hadn't noticed Forbes' 2018 and 2019 lists were split by gender. "Actor" is commonly used for both genders. Sorry about that. I support a combined list. PrimeHunter (talk) 07:36, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Phil6875: The broken links resulted from the edit that that preceded yours which vandalised the table. There was nothing wrong with your edit or actions per se. Betty Logan (talk) 14:11, 31 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Mel Gibson - Passion of the Christ edit

He made over $300 million on that movie. Why isn't he on the list for it? 174.94.25.40 (talk) 01:18, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

He didn't act in the movie. Betty Logan (talk) 01:28, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
