Ron Howard

Ron Howard's movies(as director) add up to be a bit over 3.8 Billion $, which makes him jump into top 10. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 45.65.11.138 (talk) 12:24, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Size

Can this be bigger 82.38.157.176 (talk) 22:53, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

This list is wildly outdated.

Needs more inclusion and updates. Aceus0shrifter (talk) 08:25, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Russo Brothers

Are we putting the Russo brothers separate or together? They both have the same box office number. I thought that they should be in one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ggianoli (talkcontribs) 18:01, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Expending

can both list be expending Fanoflionking 14:16, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

The number of directors in each table does not need to be increased. We wouldn't want this to get too long and indiscriminate. TompaDompa (talk) 12:04, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Why do you keep removing any additional tables that expand the article? What is the point of this article if it's just a list of ten directors and nothing else? And how is it a WP:Global perspective if the list is exclusively just US and UK directors, with no representation at all for other European or Asian directors? Adding lists for individual markets is how you give a WP:Global perspective, not removing them. Maestro2016 (talk) 00:58, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
Indeed, what the point of this list is really is a good question; Wikipedia is not a box office database. Throwing together a handful of national perspectives from some of the world's largest economies does not result in a global perspective, it results in a grab bag of national perspectives from large economies. The way to get a global perspective is to take a global perspective, i.e. a worldwide list. Your assertion that it only includes US and UK directors is plainly incorrect considering New Zealand is represented by Peter Jackson at number three. TompaDompa (talk) 04:21, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
I think it's a fair point that smaller economies should also be included, hence why I've added an expand section tag. I missed NZ, but what I meant is that only Anglophone countries are represented on the worldwide list. Directors outside the Anglosphere have no representation. Maestro2016 (talk) 05:09, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
The dominance of English-language directors is not a bug that needs to be fixed, it's a trend exhibited by the data. Globally, the box office is dominated by English-language films. That's why List of highest-grossing films is dominated by English-language films. It's no surprise that a list of highest-grossing directors would exhibit similar trends. This is an expected property of the metric this list uses. Whether we should even have a list using this metric—keeping in mind that Wikipedia is not a box office database—is a different question.
A global perspective isn't the sum of a handful of national perspectives. A global perspective is a global perspective. Adding a few national perspectives as you have done increases the amount of bias rather than decreasing it. It's also a problem that the article as a consequence of this expansion mixes the fundamentally different measures of nominal grosses and box office admissions. TompaDompa (talk) 14:58, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
It's a shame that the individual markets section was deleted for seemingly no reason in July 2022, gave some interesting details and more purpose to this article than the one simple list. I even see that the North America had its own section from ~2017 until 2020. Either they should come back or the present list expanded to include more directors so this article isn't so small.Yeoutie (talk) 07:45, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

Not adjusted for inflation?

Why on earth would you not adjust it for inflation unless you're trying to promote directors and movies that are new? This is a f****** commercial more than it is information, part of the reason why I do not donate to Wikipedia you morons. You have to adjust for inflation. I have a master's degree in fighting and this is ridiculous to post. Any financial historical comparison must be adjusted for inflation otherwise it's not real. This is an advertisement morons. 50.46.63.12 (talk) 14:12, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

You're not wrong about the uselessness of a list like this absent inflation adjustment, but we don't have any sources that provide such adjustment and can't do it ourselves without violating our policy against WP:Original research. TompaDompa (talk) 14:18, 30 December 2022 (UTC)
