Edit request from Oktobar, 9 January 2011 edit

{{edit semi-protected}} Ivan Zidarevic - Serbian Geographer

Oktobar (talk) 19:57, 9 January 2011 (UTC)   Not done: You'll note that currently, almost all of the people on this list have their own wikipage (and I'm just about to remove those that don't). In general, people on lists of this type need to either have their own Wikipedia article, or you need a reliable source verifying that 1) fits the inclusion criteria of the list (here, is a geographer), and 2) is at least more notable than average. That is, there are certainly hundreds of thousands of geographers in the world, so we don't want to list all of them, just those that are notable. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:51, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Gender edit

This list is really heavily male dominated. It is missing both a link to and a listing of most of the women at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Women_geographers - a list which in itself is thin. Adding to it would be a great project for a class on gender and geography. Meanwhile, to make it easier to find the women it would be great to put a (W) here by those that self-identify that way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sara.koopman (talkcontribs) 18:03, 5 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sara.koopman, and thanks for your suggestion. (Your comment on Twitter brought me here.) I'm pinging LiAnna (Wiki Ed) with Wiki Education Foundation who may know of some class on gender and geography that could work on this. A friendly FYI that there are hundreds of friendly folks who have watchlisted the talkpage for Women in Red, so you might consider making a comment there, too. In the meantime, I'll add Jacoba Hol to this list; thanks for the reminder to do so. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:07, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for pinging us, Rosiestep. I sent Sara.koopman an email to see if she can connect us to any folks in the geography community who might want to tackle this. Jami (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:40, 8 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
I found a few more via Category:Women geographers. That too is inadequate, as Sarah points out. Bmcln1 (talk) 18:53, 8 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
