Is there a reason that "generation" isn't capitalized on these pages? edit

If there is, please inform me. Paintspot (talk) 17:55, 1 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Possible Mistake edit

Is the fact that the Pokémon in Firered and Leafgreen aren't in here a mistake? ThePRoGaMErGD (talk) 18:37, 30 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

I wouldn't think so—those only featured monsters from previous games, no? Eman235/talk 20:01, 30 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Fire Red and Leaf Green is the same as Red and Green so there was no "new" Pokemon to add. Porygon-Z (talk) 18:05, 19 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Improving the list edit

Hi, I've developed a concept of how the list should look (text taken from this article).

List of Pokémon species introduced in Generation III (2002)[nb 1]
Name Type(s) Evolves from Evolves into Notes
Torchic (0255) Fire Combusken (#256) Torchic (Achamo (アチャモ)[2] in Japanese) can scorch foes black with its stomach-produced fireballs. Its English name is a portmanteau of "torch" and "chick", the latter alluding to Torchic being based on a baby chicken. During the promotion of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire in America, a special Game Boy Advance with a Torchic theme was released specifically at the New York Pokémon Center back in 2003.[3] Torchic is one of three starters from the Hoenn region. The character May used one in the Pokémon anime.
Combusken (0256) Fire/Fighting Torchic (#255) Blaziken (#257) Combusken (Wakashamo (ワカシャモ)[4] in Japanese) can produce about 100 kicks a second. It became the first of three consecutive Fire and Fighting starter evolutions, eventually ending with Emboar in Pokémon Black & White.
Blaziken (0257) Fire/Fighting Combusken (#256) Mega Evolution The final evolution of Torchic. Blaziken (Bashāmo (バシャーモ)[5] in Japanese) can leap high in the air and deliver amazing fiery kicks. Blaziken has received generally positive reception. IGN readers ranked Blaziken the 50th best Pokémon ever.[6] Game Informer ranked it the 36th best Pokémon.[7] In a poll by Official Nintendo Magazine's Tom East, Blaziken was voted the third-best Fire-type Pokémon. They stated, "A kung fu chicken? What's not to like?". In a poll of the best Pokémon from Ruby and Sapphire in celebration of the games having 10 years under their belt, Blaziken was ranked in third place.[8] Another poll of the best Pokémon introduced in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald placed Blaziken third.[9] GamesRadar used Blaziken as an example of a human-shaped Pokémon done right.[10] The Escapist's John Funk wrote that Blaziken was an "awesome" example of a Pokémon that players who refused to play past Red and Blue were missing out on.[11] Game Informer's Jeff Marchiafava felt that Blaziken was less cool than other Fire-type Pokémon and stated that it has a 1970s "vibe". While he felt that the Mega Evolution was an improvement, he called it a "Mega Disappointment."[12] Kotaku's Eric Jou also felt that it had a weak design and cited it as an example of Ruby and Sapphire's weak Pokémon designs.[13] Several critics and websites have noted that Blaziken would be a good choice for a playable character in Super Smash Bros..[14][15][16] It was the first Pokémon capable of knowing Blaze Kick. It received an Ability called Speed Boost in Generation 5, which caused it to be banned to the 'Ubers' tier in the Smogon Competitive Scene.

So yeah, the major changes include putting the number in the Pokémon's name field, combining their types into one line, replacing "Beginning of evolution" with "—", removing table colors, and putting the Japanese name in the notes section. This would be used for the other lists if there seems to be support in changing the formatting. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 00:08, 31 January 2024 (UTC) Cukie Gherkin (talk) 00:08, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

As much as I like the aesthetic flair of the colors, this is tremendously helpful in terms of navigation and easier reading in these articles. I definitely support this becoming official. Has one ever considered Magneton? Pokelego999 (talk) 00:19, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
leaves more space for the text that describes the things the lists are about, so yeah, i support it
i would offer to make the change if i could, but my weekday pc really can't handle more than the bare minimum in its current state
on an unrelated note, why does blaziken's description use the objectively superior non-roman numbers that i can read, shouldn't that be changed? cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 00:27, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I like this. It is similar to a proposal I was working on in my sandbox a while back ([1]), but I like yours better. I would personally go a step further and omit the Type field as leaning too far into cruft territory, but last time I suggested that, others disagreed. TarkusABtalk/contrib 01:24, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I do prefer something like this more than the current table. I'd support a swap. -- ZooBlazer 01:29, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • I heavily support combining the Pokédex number with another column like this. I think it's fine to omit the Japanese names. I'm not in favor of removing the type coloring; I think it is very useful at a glance for some readers, and overall much more aesthetically pleasing. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 09:17, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom. Anything to save horizontal space. Axem Titanium (talk) 20:19, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • I agree with Mable, both in that losing the type coloring would be a shame, and that I'm fully in favor of combining the name and number columns. I tried it with some variations on English/Japanese/number. I think you can also keep the separate types columns but slim them down by dropping the "Primary"/"Secondary" subcolumns and adding a width. Maybe move the colors over to not be behind the text? Example below. --PresN 00:38, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Name[nb 2] Type(s) Evolves from Evolves into Notes
Treecko
(Kimori (キモリ))
0252
Grass Grovyle (#253) Treecko has claws at the bottom of its feet so it can scale walls and ceilings. It uses its thick tail to slam foes. Treecko is one of three starters of the Hoenn region.
Sceptile
Jukain (ジュカイン)
(0254)
Grass Grovyle (#253) Mega Evolution The final evolution of Treecko and a playable character in Pokkén Tournament and its counterpart. It is based on the Dilophosaurus. It received a Mega Evolution in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which gave it a secondary Dragon typing. It was the first Pokémon capable of learning Leaf Blade.
Combusken
(0256)
Fire Fighting Torchic (#255) Blaziken (#257) It can produce about 100 kicks a second. Combusken became the first of three consecutive Fire/Fighting-type starter evolutions, eventually ending with Emboar in Pokémon Black and White.

I really love this idea! I think I would prefer, in the case of dual typing, to have each color take up half of the vertical space, thus there being a split in the middle. It vaguely looks like you may have tried to do that in the final example here, but it looks like almost exclusively the "Fighting" color on my screen. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 12:47, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
It was 50/50 on my screen, but I just swapped it to use css gradiants instead of 2 rows - does that look right to you? --PresN 20:46, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, this looks perfect and great! :) ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 08:52, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
After thinking about it, getting rid of the type colors is probably not ideal. I do like the slimming down of the colors. -- ZooBlazer 15:22, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think that the second Combusken example is superior, as I think the first is both creating more horizontal length than is necessary, but also I think it just looks better than having two separate columns for the colors. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 20:56, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Mocked up some templates to make the color bars easier- {{Poketype}} and {{Pokecolor}}, so for a grass-type you'd just say {{Poketype|{{Pokecolor|Grass}}}}, or {{Poketype|{{Pokecolor|Fire}}|{{Pokecolor|Fighting}}}} instead of having to build out the big and messy |style="background: linear-gradient(to bottom,#F08030 0%,#F08030 50%,#94352D 50%, #94352D 100%); width:1em" align=center| . --PresN 15:06, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Now applied these to this list, and worked out the regexs to easily apply them to the other lists. I'll hold off on that until we have a consensus on the name column. --PresN 22:20, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
The neat thing about {{Pokecolor}} is that if anyone comes up with better colors, you can just update that template and all of the lists will adjust. --PresN 22:21, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok, now we have to pick which first column- 1, 2, or 3? (or your version up above without the bolding) --PresN 11:50, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I like 2 and 3. I don't like the double-brackets of 1. I think it's probably appropriate to include the Japanese name and it looks nice. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 12:26, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
My own preference is 2, but I'm ok with 3. --PresN 14:08, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm fine with both 2 or 3. -- ZooBlazer 22:23, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Any opinion @Cukie Gherkin:? --PresN 22:49, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think 2 or 3 are best, with 2 being fine because vertical space isn't that big a deal compared to horizontal, I think. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 23:24, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Alright, I've gone ahead and converted the table to what seemed to be the consensus. If y'all agree, I can change the other 7 lists to match. --PresN 00:43, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think that this style would be good for all the lists, yeah. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 07:06, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have no objections to the other lists being changed to the updated look. -- ZooBlazer 07:10, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
You've done a beautiful job, PresN, and I am excited to see this new style used on all the lists. Good work! :) ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 07:49, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I support the new format. Well done. I had thought about a format with notes in a separate row like the plot in Pokémon: Indigo League#Episode list but it has both ups and downs, e.g. not working with rowspans like Lotad or Rotom. Small comment on the current format [2]: The Pokedex number is on its own line, applies to the whole cell, and comes after a name in parentheses which only applies to its own line in the cell. With these circumstances I would prefer #0252 without parentheses over the current (0252). PrimeHunter (talk) 14:11, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Alright, all 8 generation tables updated! If y'all decide to change it to #0252 instead of (0252) let me know, it would only take a minute to update. --PresN 20:07, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Poor gen 9. -- ZooBlazer 20:46, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Whoops! I was sitting there on the gen 8 list thinking "yeah, the last Pokemon game came out in 2022, that makes sense"... Gen 9 now fixed. --PresN 21:22, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

on this thing i found edit

this source, from the game haus

talks about blaziken's wacky competitive history

reception to the site's usability around here ranges from "uh idk maybe" to "uh idk maybe not"

reliable or the opposite of reliable? cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 11:16, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

This source looks good to me. Apparently The Game Haus "holds itself and its content creators to the highest of standards," which while giving me a bad vibe does suggest proper editorial control. Eric Bartlett is a professional writer/journalist. I'm excited to see a new esports source with potential, as I think this is one of the primary "real-world" impacts these items have. Good find! ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 08:34, 17 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
in that case, i added it back
do think the wording is a little bad, but that shouldn't be too hard to analyze and fix when i'm less tired
