Fictional Raccoons vs. Raccoons in Fiction

All of the "unnamed raccoons" appearing in various films and TV shows don't strike as actually being fictional raccoons. These are mostly real raccoon "actors" (maybe some puppets, etc as well) appearing in a fictional work. If they don't have a name, a biography, or any distinguishing characteristics beyond general raccoonyness, they don't count as fictional "character". Fictional Raccoon vs. Raccoon Themed Costumed Vigilante

Reference to "the Coon", a South Park character, should be deleted. It overreaches the scope of the article. The character is neither a raccoon nor mistaken for a raccoon. (i.e. Though, I have not examined the List of Fictional Bats article for Batman's listing, I would propose in the same vein that Batman be deleted should he appear, and that the Manbat should be retained.) 75.149.80.46 (talk) 03:31, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Tanuki

These are not raccoons, and are not even that closely related. But, on the other hand they are often called 'raccoons' in fiction that has been localized to English. And in animation they are hard to tell apart. But, should they be included on this list? For example, "Pocky and Rocky" features a tanuki, not a raccoon.68.3.133.105 (talk) 02:36, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

Since tanuki are canids, they should be moved to "List of fictional canids," and given the appropriate caveats (i.e., that they were mistranslated into "raccoons")--Mr Fink (talk) 02:45, 26 October 2019 (UTC)
