removing Ian Folley

I'm removing Ian Folley because his death was not due to his injury, "He was taken to hospital where he needed a minor operation for a perforated eyeball; appallingly, he died under anaesthetic." [1] Adpete (talk) 05:47, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

Did he die from a reaction to the anaesthetic? Was the operation thought to be minor but the damage turned out to be more serious? Or was a mistake made by the surgeon which led to his death? The source is unclear. Either way, if he had not been injured, he would not have died. Including him would be consistent with the other sport-related death lists, which even include people who died from a heart condition which was triggered by playing their sport. – Smyth\^talk 13:32, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

One source says he jogged from the field,[2] and another says, "He later suffered a heart attack while under anaesthetic in hospital. His father, Jim Folley, spent years fighting the hospital to accept negligence. More than five years later, Cumberland Infirmary accepted liability and apologised on television."[3] So I think that's clear that it wasn't due to the cricket injury. I wouldn't mind him being added so long as there was a bit more detail in the table, like "Suffered eye injury while batting, died under anaesthetic in hospital". Others

By focussing on notable people only, the section on fatalities due to cricket balls is woefully biased, making it look like strikes to the head are the biggest cause of deaths almost certainly just because of the Hughes incident. This is completely untrue. From looking through news articles since 2000 on cricket fatalities by getting struck by the ball while batting, I found 1 from head strikes, 1 from neck strikes (Hughes), and 17 from heart strikes. The list is supposed to be fatal accidents, not notable people killed. It should be made clear hits to the chest are by FAR the biggest mortal danger to batsmen, while death from getting hit on the head is extremely rare and a once in a generation event. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.86.76.185 (talk) 18:09, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

The article title is "List of fatal accidents in cricket" not "List of notable people who died playing cricket". Adpete (talk) 07:45, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lists#List naming, the absence of "notable" in the article title is irrelevant. WWGB (talk) 08:08, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
