Threatened dog breeds

edit

I removed this link [1] from the article during a quick cleanup, but it could be useful for future editors. Ackatsis (talk) 07:29, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Why is there nothing on the Pocket Beagle? It's a form of Beagle apparently owned by Elizabeth the 1st and went extinct sometime in the 1800s... Temet Nosce (talk) 11:15, 10 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Separated notes and references columns

edit

Hello Lightburst, I assume from some of your recent contributions that you intend to add a short summary of the various extinct breeds in the notes column, can I suggest that instead of having a separated notes and references columns they be one? Separated columns becomes a magnet for people to add unsourced OR. Regards, Cavalryman (talk) 20:14, 9 October 2020 (UTC).Reply

Cavalryman Hi, was unsure about the format of section for adding refs, so I added a column. I am not opposed. Personally I think the blue linked dogs do not need refs, but I will defer on that as well - there was a no refs template on the list. Lightburst (talk) 20:16, 9 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
I would ordinarily agree, but any notes should be cited and if there are no notes there really is no excuse to leave all of the photos, it’s just puffery. So I think if this list to avoid future CFORK arguments the notes section, properly cited, is vital. Regards, Cavalryman (talk) 01:13, 10 October 2020 (UTC).Reply
The photos are there to provide visual information. It is easy to add notes, I can go about that process. My opinion is that the blue linked items on the list allow the reader to click and read up on the actual extinct dog article. Lightburst (talk) 17:25, 10 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Lightburst, you will no doubt have seen I have made a start on the notes section. I would recommend reviewing any sources you find on the article, many of these pages have not been reviewed in some time and some of the sources don’t even say the breed is extinct. I have started using Template:Sfnp, a number of the reference books have been used several times so I believe short footnotes are more accurate. Missing breed

edit

I just remembered another extinct dog breed, the Belgian Mastiff. Could an article be written on this breed?Malcolmlucascollins (talk) 01:59, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Already exists, Belgian Mastiff. Regards, Cavalryman (talk) 04:24, 1 December 2020 (UTC).Reply

Unsourced verbiage

edit

Hello Sumanuil, I think it is good that you are filling in the verbiage for a number of breeds, but please could you cite the sources you have used? Whilst citing those I have already I have found a number of glaring errors on breed pages and complete fabrications on this page. Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 04:05, 1 December 2020 (UTC).Reply

I'm doing that right now. - Sumanuil (talk) 04:05, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Excellent, thanks. Further, I suggest you confirm the sources state what is cited to it on the various pages, as said I have found a number of complete fabrications. Cavalryman (talk) 04:08, 1 December 2020 (UTC).Reply

I'm trying to, but help would be appreciated. - Sumanuil (talk) 04:26, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Samanuil, as far as I can tell you are not citing reliable sources, they will be removed. And why are you making false attributions? For instance, you cited the claim that the Cumber Spaniel descends from the Alpine Spaniel to this webpage, 1) the AKC is not reliable for anything but their own breed standards and 2) the webpage does not even say that. Cavalryman (talk) 04:33, 1 December 2020 (UTC).Reply

I'm getting these from the breeds' own Wikipedia pages. Take it out if it's unreliable, but most of the sources don't appear to be. - Sumanuil (talk) 04:34, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

With respect that is just lazy editing what causes work for others to rectify. Please both check the sources reliability and verify what they state. Cavalryman (talk) 04:48, 1 December 2020 (UTC).Reply

Draught / drafting dog

edit

Hello Peter Horn, there is a link to draught dog in the list, which redirects to drafting dog, so there is no need to include that in the see also section. Additionally, it is inappropriate to include a link to a role still performed occasionally by dogs in the see also section of a list of extinct breeds, types and variety, a role is none of those things. Cavalryman (talk) 00:38, 16 April 2021 (UTC).Reply

Hello, Mea culpa, my English is too North American. Peter Horn User talk 00:59, 16 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks for the response, can I assume you are happy for me to remove it again? Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 01:23, 16 April 2021 (UTC).Reply
