Maps edit

I have added a map that I found on the Sahara page that shows Saharan ergs. I have placed it here because I have seen such maps added to Lists of Rivers. However, this may not be in line with editorial policy and requires some attention from a wikipedia editor. TelecomNut (talk) 22:01, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

When is an erg an erg? edit

What is this list about? Are we talking about local naming convention, or is this a list of ergs as defined by the erg page, meaning sand dune areas over 125 km² with more than 20% sand cover? Several of the Moroccan ergs are not ergs in the latter meaning of the word, they are just local names for specific smaller dune fields. Only Chegaga and Chebbi represents real ergs. In the Algerian list there's also Erg Ferradj, which is not an erg in the same meaning as a "sand sea" it's just a region. There are very few dunes in that area. Edit: I changed Erg Ferradj into Erg Merhiti, which is an actual Algerian erg similar to Erg Chebbi, at 30° 00' 00" N, 4° 13' 33" W 109.56.165.46 (talk) 15:21, 15 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Another thing, Erg Chebbi of Algeria is not spilling over into Morocco. Erg Chebbi in Morocco is a different place than Erg Chebbi in Algeria. They just have the same name. Because it's a tourist attraction, it's always the Moroccan erg you get if you search for it, but there is an Erg Chebbi in Algeria too and it has no relation to Erg Chebbi in Morocco. Erg Chebbi in Algeria is the small dune field between Erg Er Raoui and Grand Erg Occidental at 29°30'0" N, 2°33'0" W. 109.56.198.81 (talk) 10:29, 26 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
A further observation: Erg Mehedjibat and Erg Tassegefit are in south-central Algeria. It is placed in the Libya section here, for some reason. 109.56.229.83 (talk) 11:11, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
