April 2004

* A Simpsons episode set in New York was clumsily edited so shots of the WTC did not exist or were obscured.

Does anybody have more information on this? I've seen this episode recently without any such clumsy editing, but I found another mention of Fox making this alternate edit (the mention might have been lifted from Wikipedia, I guess). Anyway, I'd certainly like to know some details about how this was done, assuming it indeed was. Rebrane 06:37, Apr 7, 2004 (UTC)

I'd actually heard that the episode was in fact pulled from syndication, at least for a while. But I implicitly believed the Wikipedia claim that it was edited. Now you mention it, I'm not so sure. -- VV 07:28, 7 Apr 2004 (UTC)

rename

This article should be moved to a better name. It doesn't reflect the naming convention of the main or other articles and it could be more inclusive of other things that were affected (a Dream Theater album release, for example). I would suggest List of media affected by the September 11, 2001 attacks. violet/riga (t) 13:16, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

I removed the following from the "Movies" section:

My first reaction was actually to change it to the following:

  • Noted internet troll Kevin Klerck penned a petition to ironicly mock what he percieved as oversensitivity to the attacks. The petition called for the name of the Lord of the Rings movie The Two Towers. Said Klerck, "It's my way of pointing out how ridiculous people have gotten post-9/11." The title remained unchanged.

(Sources: petitiononline.com/twotower/ http://www.twotowersprotest.org/faq.htm http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2002/5/9/10155/29581/)

My second reaction, obviously, was just to remove the thing altogether. In my opinion, it places too much emphasis on something that's actually not terrifically involved with the article (the film was unaltered, there was no serious (i.e. studio) pressure to change it). If anyone can reword it to make it better, go ahead and put it in.

Peter Jackson actually went on record regarding this, but this was way back in 2002 so there are probably no live news links available quoting him regarding this consideration. 23skidoo 04:45, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Deleted example

I removed the following: *In the DVD release of National Lampoon's European Vacation, a shot of lower Manhattan has the Twin Towers digitally removed.

I can find nothing on the Net to support that this film from 1985 was so altered, and it would have been extremely idiotic for such an edit to have been made anyway. If someone has proof that the DVD was edited, please provide it. 23skidoo 04:45, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

CNN reports on 9/11

I added a paragraph about some of the erroneous reports that CNN aired in the opening hours of 9/11 (like the car bomb going off in Washington and the fire on the Mall which I'd forgotten about). I think this information is interesting as an indicator of how the networks scrambled to get the right information out there. I'm not certain if this is the proper article for the information, but with all the 9/11 articles out there, this is the only one I can find that discusses CNN and other news broadcasters in any real depth. If someone feels this paragraph belongs elsewhere, please move it as needed. 23skidoo 16:38, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

System of a Down

The description currently on the page doesn't seem to explain what exactly was objectionable about the System of a Down album released in September 2001. Was the "trust in my self righteous suicide" lyric cited seen as a reference to the motives of the hijackers? Could someone who's more familiar with the band than I am clear this up? Children and 9/11 footage

In the days after 9/11 I clearly remember seeing a news report on CNN or some other broadcaster that said kids were being traumatized because some of the younger kids actually thought all the different replays (particularly the ones taken from different angles) were of different attacks, suggesting a constant state of bombardment was under way. Can anyone track down a current source for this? I think it would be worth adding to Laura Bush's warning. 68.145.238.33 12:16, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Clive Cussler

There was one Clive Cussler novel, I can't remember the name, with the plot revolving around terrorists blowing up the WTC. Anyone have any more info?

Error in name of this article

Fixing this looks too hard for me. Can an expert please insert the required comma after the number 2001 in the title of this article? Thanks! Korky Day 00:33, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
