What about (*>*) edit

Does any one use (*>*) for a chicken I also made (*>*)-/# (chicken frying a waffle 73.19.160.254 (talk) 13:16, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@73.19.160.254 if u can make it popular worldwide i can add it
but there's no chicken frying a waffle emoji tho ut I'll try to make it DoraTheMora (talk) 20:04, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
You could also have (‘u’) and (‘u’)-/# because it makes more sense for a human to fry a waffle 🧇 then a chicken to fry a waffle. And you can have (‘u’) and (‘n’) and (‘u’)<(hi) and (‘u’)/\(‘u’) 2600:8800:5C07:7000:DC8E:E08D:D93:4D6E (talk) 16:01, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@2600:8800:5C07:7000:DC8E:E08D:D93:4D6E yeah thats a good idea but like it's not one of the general emoticons sooo uhhh DoraTheMora (talk) 17:51, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Two misidentified emojis :-> :^) edit

I was on the various BBS and websites in the late 80’s and early 90’s where the concept of expressions of emotion were first discussed. I cannot add anything to the discussion about Eastern emojis, however, Western emojis I am familiar with from their earliest days on public sites. Due to this I can say that the article on emojis misidentified at least 2 emojis.

First the :-> or alternatively :-» This emoji had a name and a very specific reason behind the mouth being a >. To cover this we should probably speak on what predated emojis or even the emoticon to assist with expressing the intended emotion behind a comment. Before emojis / emoticons most people would simply type their intended emotion inside of asterisks. :-> replaced *wicked evil grin* (alternatively *WEG*) this in no way was related to the happy face emoji. The > or » was used because it looked like the Joker's evil grin. (Joker from DC Comics)

The second misidentified emoji is any that used the caret ^ as in :^) It was called the Pinocchio nose. This was intended to show that either the last statement you made was an obvious lie, or that you believed the other person was lying. Eques deVentus Occasus (talk) 12:07, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. I'm afraid we can't use this unless there is a reliable source saying this.

Semi-protected edit request on 18 April 2024 edit

Reference 37 has error 404 The Dictionary of Emoticons - No Words Allowed.

Add a new reference 73 to the link to the Lenny Face emoji overview https://www.atlaso.cz/lenny-face-emojis/ with an explanation about the history.

Thank you. Damak (talk) 16:44, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Partly done: Fixed the dead link. However, when requesting additions via edit requests they must be specific and presented in "Please change X to Y" format. —Sirdog (talk) 02:01, 21 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I want to add the T-T emoticon to the crying section as I noticed its absence 2603:6080:1800:CA:FB0E:52C4:21DC:6238 (talk) 17:22, 6 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. For this you would have to show verifiably that it is commonly used. Note also that the slightly different T_T is listed. Irltoad (talk) 06:18, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
