Good charlotte, brand new ,simple plan, my chemical romance, and more are way emo
like it when people erase your comments? Dont be a bitch. Anyway Weezer is alternative rock. Emo is what i said above
GC, SP, MCR are not emo! WHAT?!?!?! They're pop-rock! Reiver 03:02, 15 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Aconite Thrill, Alkaline Trio, A Static Lullaby, Brand New, The Blood Brothers, Coheed And Cambria, The Faint, Fugazi*, The Get Up Kids, Matchbook Romance, Minor Threat*, My Chemical Romance, The Rocket Summer, Taking Back Sunday, Thrice and Thursday are all NOT "emo". I'll leave this message up for a while so people can voice objections, then I'm taking down any no-one disagrees with.
(*) I can understand why Fugazi and Minor Threat are included, but one is a post-punk band and the other was a hardcore punk band. I'd be particularly interested to see how many people think they should stay on the list. It's a difficult topic. Alexforcefive 18:24, 18 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Well since no-one seems to be looking at the discussion page, and an anonymous user keeps adding more and more junk to this page (I'm trying to assume good faith but the definition of 'emo' is a touchy subject and I doubt someone sincere would add so many links to so many bands outwith the definition of the Emo (music) page AND the instructions on this page), I've removed a bunch of these links. They'll probably just get added straight away again... Alexforcefive

I agree. And how are The Mars Volta and Of Montreal emo? Seriously, they don't sound anything remote to the genre, especially The Mars Volta. Do people even listen to the music these days?

Well I'm glad someone agrees with me! =D Seriously, I had an idea which I've detailed at Talk:List_of_screamo_groups#What_to_do_with_this_page.21, and I was wondering if you think we should do roughly the same thing with Emo too. A lot of these bands are either not emo or not notable, maybe if it was presented as more of a definitive list, people would be discouraged from adding flavour of the month bands to it. Nobody here has mentioned the difference between "emo" of today and emo of the past. Emo has become a catch-all for pop-punk, indie, alternative, and acoustic acts who primarily discuss relationships, heartbreak, and the like. Since that's the sole basis of relationship with some of these bands (Bright Eyes vs Indian Summer, for example), you might as well include a few country songs, 80s songs, classic rock, etc. because they've been talking about that stuff for years. Emo is a branch of hardcore. Yakwhacker 12:17, 14 February 2006

NN bands edit

Please see Talk:List of songs under one minute in length for some discussion on the notability of bands in lists like this. A few users there decided it is best to establish the notability of a band in its own article first before listing it on an article like this. I'm going to take off all bands with broken links (regardless of the emo-ness). Please see WP:MUSIC for Wikipedia's guidelines on band notability. If anyone disagrees with me, please say something on this talk page and I would be more than happy to compromise or change my mind given a good argument :-). This will be on my watchlist. Thanks, JHMM13 (T | C)     05:53, 3 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely brilliant idea. I was going to argue that some bands without articles are still notable, but by a happy coincidence, none of the bands you deleted are! Victory! Alexforcefive 22:41, 4 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
PS if you could drop by Talk:List_of_screamo_groups#What_to_do_with_this_page! too I'd appreciate it. I've been putting off RfDing that article for a while, mainly because no-one has taken the time to reply on the talk page.
