TOTALLY WRONG TITLE!!!

edit

@Oncenawhile and Diannaa: Folks, this list was mainly put together by me, you should have pinged me before creating this new page and giving it a new name. I have used many sources and have specifically selected ONLY THE EARTHQUAKES WHICH AFFECTED WHAT IS TODAY ISRAEL/PALESTINE, leaving out major events which affected other parts of the Levant (SE Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Cyprus). Only if the same quake that affected IL/PAL did also substantially hit, say, Syria, did I mention Syria too. It took a massive amount of work, believe me.
There are other major Levantine events which I filtered out! As it is now, the title you chose does not reflect the contents. Far from it.

I am putting the list back to where it was. If you do fix things here (rename the page "List of earthquakes in Israel/Palestine") and set a note on the Israel and Pal. pages (

), then it's OK to remove the list from there. Now - it's not.

I would not support keeping the topic as it is and expanding the list to all earthquakes which indeed affected ALL PARTS OF THE LEVANT. That would be too much, too unspecific, and will drown in data without ever getting a proper shape useful to the user. If you do look into the existing books, you'll see how localised many of the large events were.
I know full well it is too much data on one specific topic for the general page on Israel, so I would salute you for fixing this. I don't know how to rename pages, otherwise I'd do it myself. Hi Arminden, I agree you originally only included those that impacted Israel / Palestine. You will see that I have therefore added many others to the list. Oncenawhile (talk) 13:33, 8 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Also, Israel / Palestine is too small an area to justify an earthquake article - all earthquakes which affected the region will also have affected the rest of the Levant. That's why there is already an info box at the bottom of the page called "Earthquakes in the Levant", in existence since 2010. Oncenawhile (talk) 13:34, 8 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but please do read - and believe :-) - what I wrote above: I did a SYSTEMATIC work of selecting what's relevant for IL/PAL. You added a few here & there. NOT THE SAME. Second, if one is interested in IL/PAL, that's where they want to see what the seismic danger is. The Levant (SE Turkey to Sinai, with Cyprus!) is not relevant for non-specialists who look up the topic. I usually do insist on seeing IL, PAL, Jordan within their context, there is too much provincialism there anyway, but this goes too far, misses the target.
People too busy with "THE conflict" tend to forget how earthquakes have messed up IL/PAL in the past. Seeing the list might remind a few about the bigger picture.
If you insist on keeping this page as it is and you cannot be won over by my arguments, then let's agree to disagree. I also do insist on giving smb. who looks up IL/PAL the specific info they need. Means: make two pages. Or seven for all I care (the Labanese also care mainly about their segment, etc. And from the quake names one does not immediately know what's where, most are too obscure.) As it is now, the page serves no-one.Arminden (talk) 13:47, 8 January 2016 (UTC)ArmindenArminden (talk) 13:47, 8 January 2016 (UTC) PS: Besides, all the FORMULATIONS refer to IL/PAL, like "the coast" w/o specifying further, or all the now missing links - on IL page no need to link, say, Galilee for a 5th time. So right now, this is also very sloppy. But not my problem anymore, I work on IL page and fix that one. Good luck here, Arminden (talk) 13:49, 8 January 2016 (UTC)ArmindenArminden (talk) 13:49, 8 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
