Washi Be included

Dubious list

There are a number of entries here which are listed as landslides - a landslide is not a flood though it may be expected that landslides occur in conjunction with floods during extreme rainfall events. The list could do with some thinning out to leave just actual floods. The Aberfan disaster is in there - that was not a flood. Geopersona (talk) 18:37, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

In fact I've gone ahead and removed Aberfan and Ranrahica as not being floods. I've not altered the ranking as that would be time consuming and ultimately pointless as more items may yet be removed and more added, and indeed death counts altered so the rank tweaking would be endless - can rank - if it is needed at all - be automatically generated from the fatalities column? cheers Geopersona (talk) 18:44, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Multiple causes of death

Numerous of the events listed on this page are recorded as for example, 'floods and mudflows or landslides'. It is probable that varying proportions of the fatalities associated with named events are due to a) flooding, b) landslides, c) mudflows etc and the available records may not distinguish between fatalities due to floods and those due to other causes. This a reason to treat figures with some degree of caution; it is hardly surprising that heavy rainfall will give rise to multiple hazards - not all deaths recorded here will be due to flooding per se. cheers Geopersona (talk) 18:53, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

1931 China Floods

The death toll is given as between 500,000 and 4,000,001. Seriously? 4 million + 1?

Given that the range of uncertainty is 3.5 million, that "1" represents 0.00003% -- a ridiculous level of precision, given the range of possible error.

Should just be 4,000,000.

Why no mention of Boxing Day 2004 tsunami ?

That was a catastrophe of Biblical proportions, yet no mention! I realize cause was an undersea quake in Indian Ocean, but it was the WATER which overwhelmed and kills those thousands of folks, no? why double list?
