Talk:List of crossings of the Charles River

Charlestown/Cambridge line edit

As far as I can discern, the rail line is roughly the Cambridge/Boston boundary and so I've moved at least some crossings over to Charlestown. The North Point redevelopment is definitely a BRA project (so the new Lechmere station will be in Boston.) --Jnik 01:26, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I verified the line and bridge locations in OLIVER. The Charlestown/Cambridge line runs directly between the Zakim and the Leverett Circle connector. The Orange Line tunnel is west of the Zakim on the Boston side, and directly underneath the Zakim on the Charlestown side; it is always east of the connector. I also combined the bascule/commuter rail bridge; there is only one bridge at this location with two halves (or, alternatively, two paired bridges); both open and both carry commuter rail. Appropriate citations for "I looked in OLIVER" and "I looked in Google Maps" are welcome... --Jnik 16:27, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Whoops edit

I created a new list for the Cuyahoga River this past week, and only just realized that we never finished the Charles! I'll get on that. - Denimadept (talk) 06:18, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bus routes edit

Might it be reasonable to add MBTA bus routes to the "carries" column? JNW2 (talk) 02:03, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

It might be a bit too much for that. Definitely useful for the bridge articles though where you're free to add as much detail as you want. --Polaron | Talk 02:07, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

If there's an article edit

...put details into the article. The only reason notes belong here is if there's no article to place them in. - Denimadept (talk) 00:36, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Long load time edit

Does anyone know why the load time for this article is so long? Antony-22 (talk) 02:43, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

New data from MassDOT edit

I've received a reply from MassDOT regarding the length of the Harvard Bridge relative to other Charles River bridges. They sent me a PDF file containing a table with the following headers: Town Name, BDEPT, Facility Carried, Feature Intersected, Length (M), Bridge Name. This should clarify a number of things, but I wonder how to cite it. I've asked them that as a follow up, thinking maybe this information is on their website somewhere. I've started updating the list article to incorporate this data. So far, I'm just refining based on their listing of which town each bridge is in. Once I get home, I'll have access to a grep-based editor which can do search-and-replace, at which point I'll add at least a Length column. I'm not sure if we want the BDEPT column. Thoughts? - Denimadept (talk) 23:18, 23 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Now that I think about it, the Length column data comes in meters, but I think I'll use {{convert}} to get feet and also figure the value in smoots for consistency. - Denimadept (talk) 23:22, 23 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sources for Newton bridges edit

It be useful to add some of these articles as sources for the crossings in Newton: https://www.google.com/#q=bridge+%2Bsite+http:%2F%2Fwww.newtonconservators.org%2F (doing the search "bridge" at http://www.newtonconservators.org/search.htm produces fewer results, perhaps more focused).
