USA and Australia of top importance?

It's probably because a lot of people on the English Wikipedia come from the US and Australia. Major countries such as the US should have a mention in the lead. Jolly Ω Janner 03:39, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Could anybody explain the differences?

Spain data would need to be adjusted to cover for all the fags Brits smuggle out of the country "when on holiday"...

Solomon Island info incorrect.. I used to sell cigarettes to them from Australia. What other stats are incorrect???

Article rankings do not match source

List error

The two top ranking Andorra and Luxemburg can not match to reality. More than 6000 annual cigarettes per individual tells us close to 20 cigarettes per day if everybody smokes. We know neither fact can be right: The fact everybody smoking or the fact average smoking close to 20 cigarettes per day. We also know these two countries are among the wealthier, which actually make them likely to have quiet low smoking rate. Can the explanation be cause the biggest part of sold cigarettes in these two small countries might be sold to tourists?, Leading to big error in measuring consumption per capita. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GJosepsson (talk • contribs)

Liz, do you actually oppose the move? Bc if no one opposes it, what's the reason to first propose it here in the talk page? Is that the WP way?

I don't have an opinion on the title of this article. The title was changed from "tobacco" to "cigarettes" in 2009 and it's been stable for 12 years. I just think an article at a title for over a decade warrants a proposal for a name change. But since this talk page isn't very active, it might be better to bring it up at WP:RM instead. Liz ^{Read! Further to that, tobacco and cigarettes are not synonymous. The data from the Tobacco Atlas does indeed state that it refers to cigarette consumption specifically, but the WHO data I added refers to tobacco consumption in general. So that's the actual reason to rename the article (unless cigarette and tobacco consumption data merit their own separate articles). — 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚 (talk) 06:25, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

• If I'm reading it correctly (and this should probably be clarified in the article), the newly added table is giving the percentage of the population that consumes tobacco, regardless of the amount they consume. So it does not reflect "tobacco consumption per capita". Assuming the article keeps its current, newly enlarged, scope, a better title might be something like List of countries by tobacco consumption, or Tobacco consumption by country.   I have a mild preference for Tobacco consumption by country. It's more concise, and "List of countries" is somewhat misleading since the article currently comprises two lists (and might be expanded to include more later).   Ah, I see. I don't mind either—I know of at least one other page in the naming format you want: Jewish population by country (though WP:NCLIST does say it is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow)—as long as we don't stay back at square 1 with cigarette consumption, which is inconsistent with the WHO data I added.
