Talk:List of countries by steel production/Archives/2015

Untitled

The units used on this page are incorrect SI units; Metric tons should be tonnes, but that doesn't matter because a metric tonne isn't a "real" SI unit. This is an encyclopedia not a 7th grade text book. The correct unit is a Mega-gram (Megagram) or Mg and 1 million of those is a Peta-gram (Petagram) or Pg not million metric tons.

Pure pedantry. Scientists don't have monopoly rights over the English language. The quantum of steel production matters for business and economic reasons, not for scienitific reasons, and just about every steel company, industry body, and government uses ton(ne)s.
