China? edit

The most glaring ommision I can see on this page is no listing for China! Can anyone fill this? Thanks! --Patteroast 12:15, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Done, but is there some way of changing the rankings without having to edit them all individually? Also the longitudes should be added througout. If noone else adds these, I will try to do this myself soon. Viewfinder 13:41, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

China edit

The northernmost point of China is on the Amur river, not in mountains, and, regardless of wheether we think it should be, Taiwan (ROC) is not internationally recognised as a separate sovereign country, although it has become the practice in Wikipedia to list it separately in this and similar articles. Viewfinder 21:42, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Besides which, Taiwan is included in the list, and the PRC is specified, not China. Warofdreams talk 21:56, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

A note should be added that Canada's Arctic Claim runs all the way to the North Pole - even if it isn't on land. -McKell Canuck

Most countries' territorial water claims extend further north than their land areas. If we note your country's territorial claim then the article will get cluttered up with notes. This article is about northernmost points on land. Viewfinder 12:55, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
International agreements only recognoise territorial claims in the sea to a distance of 12 nautical miles (14 english miles) from land. On top of that there are economic zones of up to 200 nautical miles, mostly agreed with neighbour countries only, when resources like fish is said to belong to a country, but that is not a territory. We only recognise land here, not sea. BIL 18:36, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

qiryat shmona or metula edit

metula is even more north of qiryat shmona. It could be 4km north of that.Amoruso 04:10, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Colombia edit

Its northernmost point is the tip of Santa Catalina Island, just off Providencia Island, in the department of San Andres and Providencia. It's at 13°26 N according to Google Earth. I couldn't find any other maps of the island.

Dependent territories edit

Why are dependent territories "listed in italics and not ranked"? They are an integral part of the country which is sovereign on the territory. This is different from disputed territories where we cannot define sovereignty of the land. But to leave dependent territories separate from their countries and unranked would be to draw ourselves into an endless argument about the countless political statuses of different territories. Most importantly, Greenland is part of Denmark. Kraikk 14:18, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The list is not consistent on this point, either. It lists New Zealand's northernmost point as being within its territory Tokelau. -- Avenue (talk) 11:26, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am for listing them separately but as an entity e.g. 1 Kingdom of Denmark - Greenland Then for the other components - Kingdom of Denmark - Denmark I may look at it to gain some consistency. Lemonade100 12:09, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Kosovo edit

Why is Kosovo ranked on the list? It is rocognizeg only by 43 out of 192 sovereign United Nations member states. Dentren | Talk 12:17, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
