Airport Tycoon 2 edit

From archive:

Airport Tycoon 2 (2002, PC) scores 0% at Rotten Tomatoes, has an average rating of 3.3/10 on that site, and is rated a rare two stars on Amazon.com. User:gmeric13@aol.com

I would add it and even add my own opinion if the game installed correctly on my computer, but find another terrible review instead of amazon due to 2/5 equaling 4/10 or mediocre.guitarhero777777 22:44, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Gamerankings 32% average
IGN review 2,5
Definitely one for this list. JackSparrow Ninja 18:17, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Airport Tycoon 2 looks like just one of many lousy games having the word Tycoon in their titles (no doubt inspired by RR Tycoon, Rollercoaster Tycoon, etc). I don't think there's anything special about this game that makes it worse then any other low budget Tycoon game. Gamerankings lists 8 Tycoon games with averages below 40% and 19 with averages below 50%. Also the Gamerankings average of 31.9% and the Rotten Tomatoes average rating of 3.3/10 put this game into the mediocre games category as described on the archive page. Supermagnetic 13:21, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

A game that based on the TV show which was given one of the lowest score on the August 1003 issue of the Super Play magazine, lower than 20 out of 100. Like all Gametek games, as the magazine describe it as nothing but just tapping repetitively on the shoulder buttons. Willirennen 10.52, 14 December 2006

A terrible Crazy Taxi clone on the PC. It recieved a 1.4/10 on Gamespot.com, and users of Gamerankings.com gave it a 29%/100.Fableheroesguild 18:20, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Anubis II edit

An awful Wii port of a two year old PS2 game with tacked on waggle controls that usually don't work causing your character to stand there and take a beating from the games unimaginative enemies.

The game has a plot, but it makes no mention of the story whatsoever in the actual game. The game consists of one music track, an annoying MIDI melody that doesn't fit with the game at all. The graphics are comparable to that of an N64 game, and even that's pushing it.

A more indepth look can be seen at IGN's review [2], which gave the game a 2.0/10. There's also the Gamespot review [3], where the game recieved a 1.5/10. It currently has a review average of 19/100 on Metacritic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.41.247.121 (talk) 20:09, 21 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bad Day L.A. edit

A buggy, humourless, mis-step of a game which was huge flop on release. The reviews were utterly scathing and it caused friction between McGee and the website Something Awful. Not that I mind, since it all proved that he was an overrated developer who relied on one game, American McGee's Alice, for credibility.

And yes, I'm fully aware that there's McGee fanatics out there who will defend the awful representation of satire on display here. It doesn't matter. It was still mauled and flopped. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kimdealslover (talkcontribs) 14:31, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Burning Desire edit

(1982, Atari 2600) is a pornographic video game with crude graphics and boring, simplistic gameplay. It was considered to have one of the worst premises ever and the game had an explicit ending scene after each level.

Don't know how that came on the list, since it wasn't discussed or referenced. Let's discuss. JackSparrow Ninja 19:25, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Captain Novolin edit

An odd game designed to teach children about diabetes.

[5]

[6]

[7]

GameRankings [8] mentions a site that game a 2.5/5 (50%) score to this game, but unluckily the review is no longer available. Let's see...other than that there's a bunch of negative Gamefaqs reviews [9], Abysmal player ratings at Gamespot[10]... well I guess it's an "unusual" game at most, which is rendered extremely hard by Captain's Novolin inability to attack...and the premise of the game is somewhat controversial ( this particular reviewer with diabetes [11] didn't particularly like the idea behind it). Nope, that's not a great game in my book. Further discussion? EpiVictor 00:32, 29 June 2006 (UTC) on seanbaby's list of the most horrible games and i'm sure some other ones as well. --Philo 04:09, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

It's terrible, add it. guitarhero777777 22:52, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

A hero whose weakness is diabetes? There's no way this can't be added. Savager 18:51, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't think this is a bad game. Misguided, perhaps, but as a side-scroller it's just generic, not terrible. This is one reason why I'm trepadatious about citing Seanbaby as a source. He's a funny guy, but he's writing for comedy first, and makes it quite clear that his process of evaulating games is not making any attempt to be truly scientific or objective. The motivations behind calling Captain Novalin the worst game ever seem to lean closer to "lol game about diabetes wtf" than "this game is truly atrocious, and as one of the 20 worst games ever, it is worse than thousands upon thousands of other games". See the comment above for a good example of this reaction. Sorry if I come across as a humorless nerd in saying this, but he's no Roger Ebert. --70.108.116.231 04:28, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes, but if you looked at the other reviews, Seanbaby isn't the only one who has deemed this game bad. Questionable (in any sense of the word) content of the game along with the poor gameplay aspects is a good enough reason to add it - games like Custer's Revenge and Ethnic Cleansing have their poor gameplay magnified by the questionable theme of the game. Granted this isn't as offensive (though people still took offense, see above) but I think it warrants an add. My earlier comment merely reflected the summarised opinion of the game. Count Duckula 2 (ZX Spectrum) edit

This game received the lowest score by far in Your Sinclair magazine, receiving just 9% in December 1992 [16] I would find other review sources for it, but the publishers Alternative didn't send review copies to any magazine - YS had to buy it themselves months after it was originally released (hence the 'Ones That Got Away' tag on the review) - so they must have known it was pretty bad. Sorry I couldn't find a HTML/plain text source for the review; this is a magazine scan. --Stevefarrell 12:15, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

This is going to be a hard one to decide as it's very old and obscure. Perhaps we could do a "worst games by system" layout for the article and have this as one for the ZX Spectrum? Savager 21:42, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'll see your 9% and give you a 3% for the CPC version of the game, as rewarded by Amstrad Action: http://www.cpcgamereviews.com/c/index8.html —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.56.117.132 (talkcontribs) .

Because I didn't read the talk page first, I've already gone and added it. Not necessarily because of the poor review scores, but because of it being voted the worst game ever by YS readers. Marasmusine 08:54, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Didn't receive much attention, but the bit of attention it did receive was largely negative. The major game sites panned the game (Gamespot: 2.4, IGN: 2.5), and most of the Gamespot forum community that actually played it regarded it as the worst (or at least among the worst) DS game to date. To top it off, it received a 27% at Game Rankings. (By the way, don't use the Nintendo Power review to counter my nomination). The Legend of Miyamoto 16:24, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Donkey Kong (Intellivision Version) edit

A terrible port of the arcade classic. Ranked 9th on GameSpy's 10 most shameful games of all time. [17] [18] Poor graphics, bad sound, bad controls, bad jumping, bad collision detection for the hammer, and only two of the levels from arcade version.

More substance and more reviews and you have a game warranting inclusion. guitarhero777777 22:53, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

It was advertised as being the 5 worst games ever.[19] I think that's good enough for inclusion even without all of the poor reviews (there are a few 'good' reviews, but you can tell they're just messing around). ECW Hardcore Revolution edit

This is by far the worst wrestling game ever made. Gamespy gave it 2 out of 10, and IGN gave it a 4 out of 10, and for good reason. Acclaim put little to effort in this title, it feels too much like WWF Attitude, except with the ECW logo on it. This game has also failed to live up to its name, as in its not hardcore at all.

Also consider ECW Anarchy Rulz, a near identical game. BuyAMountain 03:24, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

see here [25] the review in british game magazine amiga power, it was so bad, because it basically didn't work at all, and therefore shameful to be released, it got 2% (and about 10% in average in the british game press, see also the page for Amiga Power Romanista 14:33, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, looks like this one warrants an inclusion. Apparently half of its score is derived from "comedy value". Isopropyl 12:03, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

More reviews. I still say include it, though. guitarhero777777 22:54, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

According to this site [26] , the game got 56% in Amiga Joker (a German magazine) and 65% in CU Amiga. For the way those magazines marked games (ie awarding them marks just for existing and having a box, and giving games high marks because the PR people asked nicely), that's also pretty low. I don't know about The One or Amiga Action or any of those though. Amiga Action probably gave it 95%, the same mark they gave everything. --Stevefarrell 23:35, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

J-Space For Windows edit

This game received a bad rating (4% from PC Format), and is now in oblivion due to obscurity. The only reference I have for this game existing is a paperback "hint book" that lists this game. This obviously broke some record, since it was the lowest rating at the time.

I don't have the paperback with me, and it may take some time to retrieve. However, I'm certain this qualifies as a valid nomination once we are able to determine why it is bad. --Sigma 7 02:39, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lunar: Dragon Song (2005 - Nintendo DS) edit

A $15 bargain at EB Games, this game isn't worth even that much. Your HP lowers when you run (ever head of stamina?). You can't choose which target to attack in battle. You can't gain experience and items at the same time (huh?). Lucia is worthless as a support character even at higher levels (At level 10 she still can't kill any enemy in one shot!). Your main character attacks with his sandals and acrobatics. Story takes an excrutiating amount of time to actually start. Side-missions ("Jobs") are ludicrousely long for nothing (obtaining items through hours of fighting while forfeiting any possible experience points, mostly). You can't hit flying ennemies before killing the one on the ground below it (until you get ranged attacks which I still haven't gotten after 3 hours of gameplay). Armors and weapons are extremely high-priced. As for visuals, a lot of the menu "links" are low-quality images that grow and shrink through a very bad stretch algorythm. The music isn't that bad, but could be a lot better. There is a token use of the mic, which is you can escape a battle by blowing on it like an idiot (yes, that's the only thing the mic does). Regular battles are mostly done by choosing "Auto Battle" and holding the right shoulder button. In conclusion? This game is about as entertaining as a retarted redneck removing boogers from his sister's (and/or wife's) nose. Sometimes, unique can be bad. ESLachance 08:03, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok, the main article says it wasn't received very positively, but the review scores mentioned there are in the "mediocre-average" or even "upper mediocre" range of 60-68%, quite not "worst ever" material. EpiVictor 14:14, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
True enough, but I realized yesterday that I knew 2 people that bought the game and never even got to the point where I am since they hated the aformentionned problems so much. A lot of user reviews are negative, and the volume of GameInformer shipped in December 2005 (it was probably the January 2006 issue, knowing how magazines work) rates it 8th in the top 10 worst games of 2005. Most of the "good" reviews either tells you to ignore it's shortcomings and force yourself to enjoy it, completely sidestep the issue and boasts that "this is a lunar game, it has to be good" or say something in the lines of "it's the first RPG on the DS, give them a break". No one actually *loves* this game, even hardcore Lunar fans (and sometimes, especially them!). ESLachance 16:50, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Circa 2001 & 2003. FMV games. Yes, in such cases, you don't add it. As much as I agree with that AMIB is being too hasty in removing stuff (which apparently is something he often does), there is still policy to consider. Released by EA for the Sega Genesis. I can't seem to find much worthwhile information about this game - like many games in the early 90s, it just sorta vanished into obscurity - but - and I usually refrain from such hyperbolic statements - anyone who has played this game will agree that it's one of the absolute worst pieces of shit ever created. Ever conceived. It features gratutious, cheesy blood, tacky and irritating voice samples, graphics that mistake digitization with quality, and invisible pits. Invisible. Pits. I don't think this is one of the worst games ever, but it maybe it could go on List of controversial games as an early example of "gratutious, cheesy blood" Supermagnetic 13:46, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Super Columbine Massacre RPG! edit

Game Revolution had to change their review system for this game. They didn't want to give it an 'F' because they thought that was too high. They gave it their first and only 'F-'. The review for it is here; they explain it better (and much more humourously) than I could:-

Most of the reviews from other websites are pretty low too:-

Although not many people will know of this as it was never sold outside Japan, I once read in a magazine that it was voted as one of the worst game to be sold in the Japanese market and it even invented a subgenre there that is known as **** game. Also it was actually one of the four game by actor Takeshi Kitano, who was said to despise videogames, I would like to add more surce if I can find it. Willirennen 10.52, 14 December 2006

U edit

Ultimate Duck Hunting (2006, PC) is a duck hunting game developed by Mid Carolina media for the PC. The goal of the game is to shoot ducks and then collect them with hunting dogs, a concept similar to that of the classic NES game, Duck Hunt. Not only is the game so bad only 3 media outlets cared to review it, IGN.com and Gamespot didn't even bother, but the fact it lead to the suicide of the GameTrailers reviewer, pretty much says enough about why the game is on the list.

V edit

I am surprised nobody nominated this title for the sega saturn. The game is probably so bad nobody wanted to play it. It has a framerate dropped down to 5 fps and most enemies had like 3 frames of animation. Dozens of glitches were included such as seeing bats behind walls, it was impossible to turn around without seeing the main character switch to third person to first person and while moving, objects changed to different sizes. It is considered an rpg, but it has nog villages, or text, or shop or even living creatures to conversate with. It doensnt have any experience indicators, instead of that everything is arranged through you score where you can buy items with. The rest of the game is a complete dud. The "map" looks like it was made on computer CGA graphics. It had 2 harder difficulty settings which didn't affect anything but destination points on the map. It has several "dungeons" which make you want to put down your controller immediately. For example, the volcano is like crazy, an enormous maze that has you go walking for ages while it is scattered with lava drops. You can only equip one item at a time and you need to wear the protective anti-lava hurting medallion so this option throughout the game is pretty lame. A detection spell can be casted which marks all the chests on the map, but the game is trying to fool you, containing several useless items like inferior pairs of armour you already have. While the chests are surrounded by lava, it is impossible to take its contents out without getting hurt. How can this possiblly not be one of the worst games. It killed the whole Hydlide series which was already as horrible as it can be.

Apparently, a poor 3DO clone of Revolution X, which was a clamorous flop itself

W edit

An incredibly bad German FPS, set in the time of the Vietnam war, with horrible graphics, gameplay, A.I. and sound. Received in nowhere more than 5 out of 100 points.

[45]

Videogame version of the popular books, only with terrible graphics making it very hard to find him, immensely boring gameplay, only eight levels and no music.
