Redirects

edit

So a huge majority of the links to other articles about specific operations that are in this article actually link back here again? Shouldn't they be left red linked so they get created? SGGH 21:03, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Operations and Battles?

edit

Why not make this "Battles and Operations of the Iraq War" rather than restricting it to the operations of the Iraq War?

- Atfyfe 20:22, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

this article should cover all engagements of the war, not only operations (which oftenly bear the name "battle of...". The title should be changed to Military engagements of the Iraq War. --TheFEARgod (Ч) 21:29, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Won't it be better to convert this terrible list desert into a table? --213.155.224.232 18:33, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Convert to a table

edit

I agree that this should be converted to a table. Additionally it is missing a lot of operations that are on the alphabetical listing and there are a lot of redirects that lead to this page. Additionally, I volunteer to take on the job of making it a table if the agreement is that it should be done. I also agree with the feargod that it should include all Battles as well--Kumioko 11:22, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

I am in the proccess of adding pages for all the operations and as I do that I am directing them to the correct link.--Kumioko 11:26, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Iraq Operations

edit

There are currently 3 Different lists of Iraq Operations; Iraqi coalition counter-insurgency operations, a chonological list and an alphabetical list. I have added a lot of operations to the alphabetical listing but I haven't updated the counter insurgency or the Chonological listing yet. Before I do I recommend that we consider other methods. Perhaps there is a way to create a navigation template that has a column sort function. I am somewhat new to wikipedia so I don't know for sure but having seen the templates available it seems reasonable to think that its possible from a programming standpoint. If you have any suggestions please post it on the talk page.--Kumioko 20:25, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Merge Article

edit

I figured out how to put a sort function on a wikitable so there is no longer a need to have a separate page for a chronological listing of Operations. Since the Iraq Military Operations 2003 to Current - Alphabetical has a far more comprehensive lising of Battles and Operations I recommend using that as the main page--Kumioko 10:37, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I looked over all three articles and here is what I recomend. I say we write the names of all of the operations by year and date chronologicly. The article counter-insurgency operations of the iraq war is almost the same as the Iraq Military Operations 2003 to Current - Chronologicly. Merge those two. Merge all of the names of the operations in those two into one chronological list, and also add the names of all of the operations that are listed on the alphabetical list. As far as for the Alphabetical article I agree with FearGod, nobody will be interested in an alphabetical list, they will want to now the oeprations by date.--Top Gun

Split article

edit

Due to the size that this article is becoming I am thinking that we might want to split it out with separate pages for each year. Any thoughts on this?--Kumioko 02:20, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Definitely a good idea. Need to also include the size of the coalition/ISF units involved if information available. Eg Operation Phantom Phoenix is a corps-level countrywide op, while Operation Spring Break, for example, is a battalion level op. This might give the reader some idea of the scale/importance of the various operations.Lawrencema (talk) 10:54, 29 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
This is a great idea. There's a big difference between a named op at the corps level vs a low-level sweep that someone named. (And it's unlikely some of these were really "named ops" since they don't seem to fit the SOPs I'm familiar with for naming ops. 155.213.224.59 (talk) 13:12, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Parts removed

edit

Gosh, they are already covered in Iraq War, 2003 invasion of Iraq etc..--TheFEARgod (Ч) 22:08, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Gosh without giving a little background on the purpose for the article the reader is somewhat in the dark don't you think? This article isn't worth much if its just a bunch of operations, stuffed into tables and spread across a page. Why not remove all the other info as well since they are all copied from other pages too. You could have at least left the links to the main articles so that they reader could go and take a look and get an idea of the context of the article.--Kumioko 23:20, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Please see Wikipedia:Content forking. No need to have, for example, Events leading up to the war, as we have a similar section already in Iraq War, and even in 2003 invasion in Iraq (2nd time that I'm saying that). Why a third? --TheFEARgod (Ч) 13:22, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
"This article isn't worth much if its just a bunch of operations.." Yes it would worth much as lists are needed and this is nothing more than a list. See similar article List of World War II military operations. No real difference with this article, and i doesn't feature a background.. --TheFEARgod (Ч) 13:22, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
imagine adding the same contents to Terrorist attacks of the Iraq War, Iraqi insurgency etc. --TheFEARgod (Ч) 13:26, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Although I made many attempts to make this page into a valid, useful article due to the constant vandalism of this page by the fear god I am no longer going to update it.--Kumioko (talk) 23:15, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

New operation for the box?

edit

The Iraqi Army is still cracking down on the Mahdi army so would anyone like to put or merge several operations into a Madhi Army crackdown article or something? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawman (talkcontribs) 14:50, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not sure whether this is what you were looking for, but I have been working on this. Lawrencema (talk) 00:17, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kudos

This list is quite brilliant. A thanks to all the contributors. -72.93.213.123 (talk) 23:33, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Simple titile

edit

This article should be renamed as List of military operations of the Iraq War. Adding the word coalition is really odd, because not all of the operations were launched by the coalition. 207.233.67.220 (talk) 18:41, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree with the name change 69.161.78.31 (talk) 22:44, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

See here for the arabic version of this article, but unfortunately it is simply a list with very little else. Feel free to add more to that article if you are up to translating. Also, please try to write in English on the English Wikipedia. Astronaut (talk) 17:59, 3 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dates

edit

Don't know about anyone else, but I think dates in the form of "20040822" are difficult to read. This is the English Wikipedia, so wouldn't "22 August 2004" or "August 22, 2004" be clearer and easier to read? Astronaut (talk) 18:06, 3 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

What is this Coalition?

edit

I can see this article's title has changed a few times, and is now about some undefined coalition. What coalition? Is it the one that came to be known as the Coalition of the Lying? HiLo48 (talk) 11:09, 14 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Is anybody looking here? HiLo48 (talk) 08:11, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok, someone just posted in the article. Maybe someone will have decided which coalition we're talking about! There;s been a similar problem with the Vietnam War article. Does Coalition really mean whoever decides to follow the USA into war no matter what? Anyone? HiLo48 (talk) 17:41, 13 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
It's really sad that for an article as big as this one, nobody EVER looks at the Talk page. Is this a classic case of "Shoot first, talk later", just like the war itself? HiLo48 (talk) 02:38, 13 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yep, I'm convinced now that it refers to the "Coalition of the Lying and Ignoring all Points of Discussion" HiLo48 (talk) 20:01, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
