A bit harsh to put Oshakati in the towns list. It's the second biggest city after Windhoek. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.71.8.5 (talk) 02:51, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Solitaire, which is little more than a petrol station with facilities and a small store connects to the game Solitaire when one clicks on the name. How do you correct this bad link? By the way, there is also a motel there now. Martyjoe 01:44, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Both concerns addressed now. Solitaire is on the List of villages and settlements in Namibia, properly linked, and Oshakati is indeed "only" a town as it doesn't have a city council, but a town council.--Pgallert (talk) 13:42, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Suggest to expand and rename edit

I suggest the following changes to this list and List of villages and settlements in Namibia:

  1. Split the villages from the settlements. Villages in Namibia are self-governed while settlements are governed by the respective Regional Council.
  2. Add the villages (but not the settlements) to this list.
  3. Rename this list to List of local authorities in Namibia. The self-governed places (cities, towns and villages) are all have a lot in common. Local elections are being held for the composition of their councils and they have a mayor. In contrast, the differences between cities / towns and villages are rather marginal, as already explained in the article.

Classic (developed-world) differences between towns and villages do not apply in Namibia, for instance market rights (not governed) and the presence of a town hall (villages and towns both have a council building in Namibia). Size also doesn't really matter, e.g. Epukiro (a settlement) should approach 10,000 inhabitants by now while Bukalo (a village) has 800, and Henties Bay (a city) has about 5,000. --Pgallert (talk) 08:16, 16 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
