Stop deleting data edit

If a data is obsolete, or doesn't quite fit in CURRENTLY, put the reference/data in here or somewhere for future. Nergaal (talk) 17:57, 30 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

First vs fastest edit

Being the first movie to reach a certain gross is not a record. Being the fastest movie to reach a certain gross is a record, and whichever movie reaches it first is by default the fastest to reach it until another movie reaches it faster. This was the reason behind this edit, the changes of which were later undone. TompaDompa (talk) 10:44, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

First is an unbeatable record. Being the second but faster, only to be surpassed again, is much less impressive than being first and then surpassed twice. Nergaal (talk) 13:34, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
There's nothing stopping us from mentioning that it was the first. In fact, I'm in favour of doing so. How impressive something is is a matter of opinion, and hence WP:POV. Being the first isn't a record, and as such doesn't belong on this list (but being the fastest is, and as such does). A better fit for that kind of entry would be List of cinematic firsts. TompaDompa (talk) 17:17, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Being the first is by definition a record. Nergaal (talk) 17:23, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure I understand what your objection to using "fastest to" instead of "first to" is. Would you care to elaborate? TompaDompa (talk) 23:00, 12 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Achievements and milestones edit

I'm moving this here for as it's WP:OFFTOPIC – some of the entries don't relate to box office, and the ones that do aren't records. TompaDompa (talk) 22:44, 12 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • It was number 1 in all 106 markets it played its first weekend, December 18–20, 2009.[3] It was also number 1 in 107 out of 108 markets (all except India) its second weekend of release,[4] and still number 1 in 29 markets in its sixth weekend of release.[5]
  • It was the highest-grossing movie worldwide for 7 weeks in a row,[6] and it remained the top grossing film internationally and worldwide for 11 consecutive weekends.[a][7][8][b]
  • It was the first movie to top the US and Canada box office 4 weeks in a row in 2 years,[10] first to top it 5 weeks in a row in 10 years,[c][11][12] and is the only movie since Titanic to top it 7 weeks in a row.[13][14] The only movie since Titanic to stay in the top 5 for at least 12 weekends.[15]
    • Still holds 2nd highest 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th weekends behind Titanic.[16]
  • It had become the top-grossing movie of all time in 24 markets after 41 days of release.[17]
  • It grossed $100 million or more outside of the US and Canada a record six weekends in a row.[18][19]

  • It had the biggest Blu-ray release worldwide – 6.2 million units[26][d]
    • Blu-ray and DVD sales[28][29]
      • Avatar set a first-day launch record in the U.S. for Blu-ray sales at 1.5 million units sold, breaking the record previously held by The Dark Knight (600,000 units sold). First-day DVD and Blu-ray sales combined were over four million units sold.[30] In its first four days of release, sales of Avatar on Blu-ray reached 2.7 million in the United States and Canada – overtaking The Dark Knight to become the best ever selling Blu-ray release in the region.[31][32] The release later broke the Blu-ray sales record in the UK the following week.[33] In its first three weeks of release, the film sold a total of 19.7 million DVD and Blu-ray discs combined, a new record for sales in that period.[34] As of July 18, 2012, DVD sales (not including Blu-ray) totaled over 10.5 million units sold with $190,806,055 in revenue.[35] Avatar retained its record as the top-selling Blu-ray in the US market until January 2015 when Disney's Frozen surpassed it.[36]
  • 81 days over 1M/day[37]
