@Erik: Are there other similar lists of black films? Would it prudent to merge this list to Black films and develop a more comprehensive list of black films there? Or at least merge it with a list of black films by decade like List of action films of the 2010s? I am not that familiar with the topic, but I don't imagine its necessary to have a standalone list per year.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 12:55, 12 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'm planning to do a List of black films, but as you can imagine, that is a big task. Per WP:NOTESAL, this is a cross-categorization kind of list (classification and year) that I found feasible. I'm not sure if there is anywhere for it to be merged without being imbalanced. The topic of black film is not that comprehensive on Wikipedia, and we have to start somewhere. I guess I elected for this (and the general article as well as Afrofuturism in film) due to Black Panther and the discussion surrounding it. Any thoughts? I don't think that the list necessarily has to be balanced but one might expect that if there is a 2018 list then there ought to be a 2017 list as well. And if 2018 has 20 entries and 2017 has 2, then we should merge them (despite the imbalance) rather than create a separate list for 2 entries. This does look to be a big task but remember to tell yourself that Wikipedia is a continual work in progress and that WP:There is no deadline.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 13:37, 12 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
I agree that others may think there is a 2017 list, especially with Get Out, and from what I can tell, multiple sources writing about such films that year. Maybe some kind of navigation template that shows that the previous year as a red link to be expanded on? Because I don't really understand what kind of merge is being envisioned. For this list to be at list of black films instead? I think that defeats the purpose of cross-categorization. There are a few black film festivals every year, so this kind of list in effect consolidates that and can do so every year. Like you said, there is no deadline, but we do need to start somewhere. I've noticed the lack of black film coverage on Wikipedia for a few years now, and we need to start somewhere. It would be a more reasonable start for list of black films to have a more well-rounded list, films from throughout the decades, rather than being a classic example of recentism. I think a list of films would benefit from a description of each film. It helps provide some context to a reader so they don't have to visit every single article to get the premise. I also think a description is more valuable than just crew names. Not sure if I have time or energy to flesh out the descriptions, though.
