Talk:List of birds of South Africa

Local names

I have no objection to base the list on Clements. However I note that some names like "Latakoo Lark" (Melodious Lark), "African Bush-warbler" (Little Rush-warbler) and some others are unknown or at least confusing within the region, and will hardly, if at all, be found in any field guides or other ornithological publications. So while staying with Clements' list I create some pipe links to introduce some IOC names which are better known. JMK (talk) 14:36, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

List order

The list does not seem to follow Clements' order and I plan to reorganize it to follow Clements 6.4. JMK (talk) 14:36, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Western Banded Snake-Eagle

• Okavongo, Chobe and Zambezi rivers are in southern Africa, but not the country of South Africa, hence the absence from this list --Alandmanson (talk) 12:14, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

Black-eared Canary

Crithagra mennelli has been removed from the list. It is found in Zimbabwe and Mozambique, but not south Africa. See http://www.birdlife.org.za/publications/checklists and SABAP2. --Alandmanson (talk) 12:33, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
