To the major contributors to this list/article: I added the heading sentence to clarify what I thought the scope of this list should be. Since nobody has reverted it or commented here, you must agree. Since then I've noticed that there are several companies already listed which may not fit this definition. A couple examples are Joseph Schmidt Confections, Vosges, Whitman's, and Whetstone. While I'm not 100% certain the last two don't manufacture chocolate, their company websites make no claim that they do. In fact, Joseph Schmidt sells "Belgian chocolate bars" which very well could be Callebaut with raspberry, or whatever flavor added. I asked this question at a Vosges store and was told, no they don't manufacture chocolate. They buy bulk chocolate, blend and flavor it and mold it into bars. Finally, the question comes down to this, do you agree with the statement I added, and if so, should these (and others) be pruned from the list. Alternatively, there could be separate sections for chocolate producers and companies who make chocolates. Beakerboy 19:49, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

I'd missed your change to the text at the top of the list. However, I do support the idea of splitting the list into chocolate manufacturers versus confectioners, and possiby giving the confectioners their own page. Deleting article in favor of categories

What is everyone's opinion of dropping this article in favor of a category called "bean to bar chocolate producer". This would help with the whole "wikipedia isn't a list of facts" thing and would probably help with people adding incorrect entries to this list.Beakerboy 11:20, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

This page is just completely incorrect - probably 50% or more of the companies listed here don't actually make the chocolate - they buy the chocolate and at best make the bon-bons. They may not even make their own bars. URLs with dots at the end

This page was recently moved from List of chocolate manufacturers to List of bean-to-bar chocolate manufacturers with "see talk page" in the edit summary.[1] But I can't see any discussion about a possible page move here, though there is some mention above about the distinction between confectioners who buy chocolate and make products with it, and those who actually make their own chocolate from cocoa beans.

While I'm not sure I agree with the move, my main problem is not with the "chocolate manufacturers" versus "bean-to-bar chocolate manufacturers". My problem is with the dot at the end of the URL. I know from experience that if someone e-mails me an URL with a dot at the end, and I click on the link, my browser can't open the page. Theo Chocolate

Is there a limit on production? Theo chocolate is a chocolate producer that turns cocoa beans into chocolate bars and candies. It is the 4th producer of chocolate. Some "chocolate producers" really just take bulk chocolate made from the beans by a large producer (I forgot the name) and make them into candies. The Theo entry contains the strong claim "High quality chocolate from world's best cacao beans". Surely a citation is needed to claim the world's best "cacao" beans. I doubt a convincing citation can be produced, and without it I think it's useless text and should be deleted.

change title of this wiki entry

ok, i'm pretty new working with wikipedia, but the title of this entry definitely is making an incorrect statement to what companies are listed. It needs a quick fix either by simply changing the title of the entry as an honest quick fix (leave out the bean-to-bar), either by goign the hard way and start defining a) what is a bean-to-bar maker and b) what is chocolate (in EN this word contains a vast spectrum including bonbons, pralines etc)

I'm afraid I don't know much about chocolate (besides that it tastes nice!), but I wanted to drop a note about changing the title. At Wikipedia, this is done by moving the page to the new title. New users don't have the facility to do this until their accounts are 4 days old, and they have made 10 edits anywhere on Wikipedia. At that point, a drop-down menu should appear at the top of the page, including an option to move. I'm not sure that there is much activity on this talk page, so you might want to bring this up at the Food and drink project where there may be more knowledgeable editors in this subject. --Kateshortforbob _talk 15:16, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

La Ibérica

A very good, but not large, manufacturer of chocolates is La Ibérica, of Arequipa, Perú. Their web site is at http://www.laiberica.com.pe/ It appears they have finally gotten over their reluctance to expand, in that they have many outlets now whereas for many many years they only had two: Calle Jerusalén and the Arequipa airport, though it was possible to find some of their products elsewhere. --Rpapo (talk) 10:38, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Bean origin instead of "Products"?

The product information doesn't seem terribly useful as most bean to bar manufacturers produce, um, chocolate. What do you think of changing that column to "Bean Origin" which most chocolate makers list, is interesting information, and will help verify that they are actually bean to bar makers (if anyone says "Swiss" they likely are not sourcing beans). This article is a mess

Not only a mess but full of spam for non-notable companies. We define non-notable for lists as not having an article in the English Wikipedia. No, bear-to-bar is controlling the own supply chain without loosing profite to "in-between" traders. So it's primarily an economic concept, that's why many chocolate producers do it in the first place. It's only secondly due to chocolate quality issues. Market share

It would be useful to have a column showing market share or some proxy like revenue. Apparently The Hershey Company, Mars, Incorporated, and Nestlé have a very large share of the U.S. market, for example. -- Beland (talk) 00:03, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

Blommer Chocolate

In the late 1990s, used to ride my bicycle around the Blommer Chocolate factory in Chicago, and picked up cocoa beans that had been spilled around the railroad tracks from the boxcars that supplied the factory. Most people who have worked in Chicago's Loop long enough have caught a whiff of the chocolate scent that sometimes washes the business district and makes you hungry. I noticed Blommer is not on this list. I checked Blommer's website, and they say they are "the largest cocoa processor and ingredient chocolate supplier in North America." Might make sense to put it on the list. Strangely enough, there's no Wikipedia article for Blommer, either. Blomer is still a one-family-owned company, so perhaps the Blomer family doesn't want an article or something. Seems weird, though. Cargill, which owns Wilbur Chocolate and Pete's Chocolate, is also a single-family company, and they have an article. World's Finest Chocolate

Blommer went through a major growth stage and has been buying up other chocolate companies. World's Finest, presently the last company on this list, is now owned by Blommer. Among many possible references, see http://www.jsonline.com/news/obituaries/82460222.html. As mentioned in the previous section, Wikipedia might benefit from a good article on The Blommer Chocolate Company. Then it can go on this list as well. I used to edit a lot, but don't have time to do a decent article right now, and apparently stubs are harder to create than when I used to edit several years ago. Verkade

I found this page after doing some research into the topic of fair trade and bean-to-bar chocolate, however, I noticed that there is atleast one mistake. Namely that Verkade is not a bean-to-bar producer. Their chocolate does have the UTZ certification but that is about it. I tried to check, but could not find anything that points to Verkade using bean-to-bar production. Since this article is semi protected and I can't change it myself, I thought of dropping a line here.
