I don't believe this is an "indiscriminate list of information that is nearly impossible to verify or maintain accurately" any more than List of bands named after places. It is not "nearly impossible" to verify band name origins, or the article List of band name etymologies would not exist. If this article is deleted, both of those should be as well.

Well how about the converse?

edit

Well then how about List of songs named after other performer's bands? Here's some:

Exact matches

edit
  • "Alex Chilton" by the Replacements
  • "Buddy Holly" by Weezer
  • "Nirvana" by ???
  • "Steve Earle" by Sugarland

Close or partial

edit
  • "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way" by Waylon Jennings
  • "Bob Wills is Still the King" by Waylon Jennings
  • "Bowie's In Space" by Flight of the Conchords
  • "Debbie Gibson is Pregnant With My Two-Headed Love Child" by Mojo Nixon
  • "Elvis is Everywhere" by Mojo Nixon
  • "Elvis Presley Blues" by Gillian Welch
  • "EZ-E Got AIDS from Freddie Mercury" by Anal Cunt
  • "Hats off to (Roy) Harper" by Led Zep
  • ""Michael You've Got a Lot to Answer For" by Duran Duran (apparently Michael is Michael Hutchence... need ref
  • "Rock Me, Amadeus" by Falco
  • "Rufus is a Tit Man" by Louden Wainright. (Rufus is Rufus Wainright, but before he was a musician (he was a baby) so I dunno about this one.)
  • "Song to Bob Dylan" by David Bowie
  • "Song to Bobby" by Cat Power
  • "Song to Woody" by Bob Dylan

Hmmmm there are hella songs about musicians, which makes sense, because gossip. But most of them don't have the actual name in them. We're not interested in those. It would make too long a list and probably too much speculation.

"Bob Dylan's Blues" "Bob Dylan's Dream" etc are not about another musician. "Hey Jude" is about Julian Lennon but really Jude is not his name... here's more: [1] Herostratus (talk) 03:53, 9 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

In 1985 Jimmy Hart recorded the song Eat Your Heart Out Rick Springfield, featured on The Wrestling Album.[1]

How about Butthole Surfers?

edit

From their Wikipedia article: "The band did not begin as Butthole Surfers, although they did have a song of that title, possibly an early version of 1984's "Butthole Surfer". This changed at their first paid concert, when an announcer forgot what the band was called and used the song title for the group's name. They decided to keep the moniker, and have largely been billed as such ever since.[10]" (the citation is "Azerrad, Our Band, p. 277.") 220.245.252.171 (talk) 01:49, 5 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
