Talk:List of Wakefield Trinity players

I am at a loss to understand why some of these players are considered notable. It would seem that someone is more intent on listing every single player they can think of that played for the club. This is not the purpose of an encyclopaedia. Just because a player has played for the club, it does not make them notable as defined in a dictionary.

Notable in this context could include Internationals, Cup winners/finalists, captains, leading point scorers, high transfer fees etc or players that played for the club over a lengthy period of time (one club men etc) etc.

Including players where the first name or initial is missing demonstrates IMHO that they are not notable enough – if you can’t remember their name, then why are they notable enough to include in this article?

Any player without his own wikipedia page, should either have a page created and content added explaining his worth, or have a brief note next to his explaining the reason for including him.

Otherwise, this just becomes a list of players and this isn’t what Wikipedia is about. 62.25.109.198 (talk) 11:44, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, there do need to be clear inclusion/exclusion criteria. This list was originally clogging up the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats article. I deleted it due to these concerns but they were put back in so I created this page to try and get some sort of compromise. A good place to look to get a feel for how this page should work is the featured article List of Gillingham F.C. players. Table format edit

Someone went to a lot of trouble setting up this table, but did it in a way that requires two links for each player, which is (obviously) error-prone and difficult to maintain. See Template:Sortname for a much easier way of accomplishing the same thing. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 22:39, 16 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
