Fujimori picture edit

The removal of the picture of Fujimori has been reverted several times, although it does not fall under the fair use claim on the picture. It was also stated once that the photo is here for "publicity". Who is this article doing publicity for? It shouldn't be. Another photo which was removed as a fair use violation remains on the page as well, but the Fujimori picture is cut-and-dried, fair use only for a certain event in time that has no connection to this article. The Fujimori picture shows whatever the publicity or event it shows in the Fujimori article. Miaers 15:09, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure if this is the correct route, but I've posted a notice on the Admin's notice board to help us resolve the problem with the image. Cheers, PaddyM 20:28, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
How does this fair use claim differ from that used to justify the use of the Phil Katz photo? --ElKevbo 22:41, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
The Phil Katz photo has been removed from the page a few times as well, but seemed to have a broader statement of fair use. I think both of them fail fair use. Dekimasuよ! 02:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

There is no difference. They both show whatever the publicity or event they show in their bio articles. Miaers 22:52, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's not how fair use works, unless you are actually talking about the illustrated event in this article. The fair use policy clearly states that these types of photos cannot be used for decorative purposes. Dekimasuよ! 02:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
In that case, I don't see the problem. I'll remove them both. Cheers, PaddyM 03:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Phil Katz photo is actually fairly used here, becasue the license indicates that it can be used to demonstrate the person if there is no replacement. Miaers 20:06, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

In light of the fact that Phil Katz is deceased, reducing the possibility that a free image replacement can be obtained, I have changed my mind. I think the original photo (but not the duplicate that was listed as GFDL) is acceptable for this article. Dekimasuよ! 20:10, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Phil Katz photo is used to show him as the inventor, not just for what he looks like. It doesn't matter he is a living person or not. Miaers 18:12, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Fujimori-press.jpg edit

I notice the 'image' page for Image:Fujimori-press.jpg specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in List of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee people constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in this List of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee people article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 3rd opinion on red links to notable people edit

Having read the policy at WP:red link I think that red links should only be used where there is also an accompanying reference that shows the persons notability and evidence of the association with the list topic itself. In the absence of a proof of notability, the name should remain, but should no longer be linked.Rememberway (talk) 15:50, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
