Julian Calendar

Do the longevity figures for Adams, Madison, and Jefferson allow for the change from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar in 1752? -- Arwel 01:36, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

For all three, and also for George Washington, the birth dates have been converted to the Gregorian calendar, so those longevity figures are correct. Eugene van der Pijll 09:19, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I didn't say I wasn't appreciative, it's a good reference to have. If you updated it every day, that would be great. I am sure this isn't how a wikiholiday is meant to work! I announced on my user page that I was going to take an indefinite vacation from editing this site because performance is sooooo poor - from hitting the "Edit this page" button to seeing the editor usually takes about 30 seconds, then another 30 to 40 seconds to save changes.

As long as I restrict my activities to this one page, I guess I'll be able to update it regularly. I'm not promising every day - but I'll do my best to make sure it's updated a couple of times a week.

Wouldn't it be more accurate to calculate the Years/Days column by counting the number of days from that President's last birthday? So for example Reagan would be 93 years 120 days, since there were 120 days from 6th February 2004 to 5th June 2004? 'Note, that the United Kingdom (and her colonies) adopted the Gregorian_Calendar in 1751, so that the English year 1751 consisted of days from 25 March to 31 December, skipping 83 days. A total of only 282 days that year! That´s making the lifespans of the presidents born in or before 1751 by 83 days shorter!'

Picking days to recalculate this

Maybe it would be a better idea to only recalculate this on certain days, such as January 1 of each year, plus whenever a currently living president dies. With this haphazard sort of "recalculate-when-we-feel-like-it" deal now, I've noticed that a lot of the time, the numbers are actually inaccuate. Since people are coming through and recalculating them at will, it's happening too often for other users to go through and make sure the changes were all correct. I think the recalculation is meant to be done every month, but sometimes when other small changes are made, people feel they might as well recalculate in order to bring the article as up to date as possible. If we were to set a date for recalculation, I'd say reinforce the 'start of every month' idea rather than every year. Ben davison 13:25, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

I think that if it were updated on the 1st of every month it would be good, as well as when one of them dies. That way there is a set day for it to be updated, and its not so random. Kaiser matias 21:37, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Fix dates

213.226.226.128 accidentally updated only the years/day column, which resulted in the days only column being out of date. [1] Subsequent editors only added days on top of this error. I ran a date calculator for Ford, Bush, Carter, Clinton, and Bush to update for January 1 2006. OCNative 04:04, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Carter vs Nixon

Cause of death

Asterisks or some other notes should be included for those presidents who died of unnatural causes (e.g. assassination)--to account for the "young" age in death.

November 11th ?

Just doesn't add up

Some of the Presidents #of days are incorrect; due to the leap-days not being included. Eventually I'll correct them, however if anyone else wants to, by all means go ahead. PS. the leap years are US Presidential election years. GoodDay 00:59, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I corrected the "years/days" dates for Gerald Ford, as Reagan saw one extra leap year. The figures didn't make sense as they were. ~SF

List of medical conditions of Presidents of the United States

I think that such a list would be helpful, as a separate article. It would detail the chronic conditions and fatal conditions suffered by Presidents either before, during or after their term of office. The Mütter Museum in Philadelphia had a very interesting special exhibition on this subject a few years ago. Spikebrennan 16:05, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Proposal for saving these lists

After the recent deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of United States Presidents by longevity in which this list barely survived I thought maybe it'd be good to take some preemptive steps to save this list. One of the things raised in the discussion was that there were just too many lists and that users supported certain lists, but not others. I just spent some time learning how to use sortable lists and I came up with this: User:JayHenry/president. It's not completely finished yet, but I'm ready to see what people think -- it combines all of the information from List of United States Presidents by longevity, List of United States presidents by age at ascension to office, List of United States Presidents by time as former president, it also includes dates of birth and death, although it would not be a good replacement for those lists, as they contain other information (place, cause, etc.). The list is fully sortable! So what do people think? If we implement this list I'm pretty sure we can prevent president lists from showing up at WP:AFD. Recreating the list

I am very sorry this list doesn't exist and I'm thinking about recreating it. We have this list of the US Vice Presidents and of the First Ladies of the US. There are now, 16 months after the discussion above, a lot of lists which don't deserve to exist if this one doesn't exist. Please comment! Calle Widmann (talk) 07:46, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
