Use of № and #

edit

Here we go again. Another editor and I have attempted to remove the use of the meaningless №/# to label the columns containing the number of the episode within a season and the number of an episode across the life of the series. MOS:HASH unambiguously states that use of the № symbol is never acceptable, and use of # is acceptable under limited circumstances. Moreover, the terms both represent the word number, and do nothing to tell the reader what the numbers in the columns mean. The use of these labels has been discussed at Talk:List of Covert Affairs episodes -- it is pointless and inappropriate to use labels that provide no information about the numbers listed, and that do not differentiate between the columns of numbers. That use of these labels has spread widely of late does not make them acceptable or encyclopedic. The IP editor pushing this edit has now violated WP:3RR and appears prepared to edit war over this issue. Drmargi (talk) 13:16, 23 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
