Timeskip Characters + Pictures

edit

I've decided to add the post-timeskip previews for each character. With the original pre-timeskip pictures on the left, and the post-timeskip new pictures on the right. I've also decided to make the post-TS pictures have equal width and height, to seperate them from the landscape images and make them easier to create. Any objections to this? especially considering it could change the layout a bit. It would be good if people could help out by adding new pictures as well, but try to use screenshots. Other Characters

edit

Theirs a lot more characters not included (Like the guy who uses the star shaped yellow Gunmen, the guy who is usually on the bridge of the Dai-Gurren with Leeron, and the two look alike tall characters who have the same facial hair and usually say the same thing. 69.248.63.92 17:03, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

death of kamina

edit

An update of the death of Kamina needs to be added, I will do it if there is no one else/objections (76.172.76.65 01:59, 12 June 2007 (UTC))Reply

Nia's Banishment

edit

Someone needs to update about why Nia was banished from the Spiral Empire; the reference currently there does not point to anything specific.

I thought it was because she asked the Spiral King why she was made, why she was born. The king promptly discarded her for having "human-like emotions". As far as I remember. 69.248.63.92 20:45, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lord Genome/Lordgenome?

edit

which one? most fansubbers use the last one, but i dont know if that is official...80.196.107.246 23:33, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, Lordgenome IS the official name, but in English it would be "Lord Genome", no doubt. I think calling him Lord Genome would be best. N-Denizen 16:41, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Origin of names

edit

Where do these "origins" for the character names come from? They should be sourced or removed. Bnynms 16:15, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I was under the impression that it was just looking at the kana/kanji and figuring out "what best works". Obviously OriginalResearch. But, tehn again, any time i've found "origins", they were never sourced.

Cleanup/THINGS TO DO

edit

There seems to be some Original Research on this page - I'm not too up-to-date on what is allowed or not, but if anybody could give it a look through and clean it up in terms of Original Research, it would be appreciated.

Also, we need to start getting sources on a lot of the stuff mentioned. this page has NONE!—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.248.63.92 (talkcontribs).

Cleanup? Definitely needed. Original Research? Almost unavoidable right now. This is still a fairly new series and there really aren't any "sources" around at the moment that could be used for character descriptions. I suppose all we can do is just work with what we've got for now... KojieroSaske 09:22, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Most Sources are from the episodes themself, or more commonly the official Gainax website(s) N-Denizen 16:23, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Character Surnames

edit

http://www.gainax.co.jp/anime/gurren-lagann/chara.html

According to Gainax's official website, characters now have surnames (with the exception of Simon, Yoko, Viral and Old Coco). The names, however, just appear to be from their respective village names.

I'd also suggest moving Simon, Kamina, Yoko and Nia to a seperate "Main Characters" section, the Gurren Brigade section is far too congested and I'd suggest making it more organised. And also, the entity that has taken control of Nia calls itself the "Anti-Spiral"(in English, BTW). --Robtf 06:41, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

That makes sense. So, Main Characters and Secondary Characters sections, plus surnames and other small edits here and there.
Actually, I think it should stay as one page, splitting it up into 3 was unnecessary. Robtf 10:39, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Spoiler tags needed?

edit

Just wondering if this article needs spoiler tags. Kamina's death is huge. Khargas 20:39, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

We aren't allowed to use Spoiler Warnings, but we think it is best that his death isn't made glaringly obvious to new viewers who want to read the article. N-Denizen 14:32, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
edit

I was wondering if it was possible to create a link that directly links to a section on another page. That way, we could put link with each character linking to their personal Gunmen.N-Denizen 15:23, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Perfect, thanks alot Transfinite - N-Denizen 19:51, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Character images

edit

There are a number of images on Gainax's Gurren-Lagann character pages (http://www.gainax.co.jp/anime/gurren-lagann/chara.html). I can manage the GIMP enough to where I could crop out a head shot. Should the article use these images as opposed to the screenshots? There are few of the characters where the images from Gainax's web page are a lot better then the screenshots, in my opinion. --Transfinite (Talk / Contribs) 03:05, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Isn't Leeron a transvestite?

edit

IIRC in his first appearence he says something like "I am neither a man nor a woman" or something to that effect. It could have been bad subbing or something though. - The Norse 03:30, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Leeron is a very feminine gay man. Khargas 01:12, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why does the page call Leeron a cross dresser? I've seen the whole series, and I don't remember him doing this even once, it should be edited out. He may seem, and probably is gay, but it doesn't mean he's a cross dresser. - Sabishii Kouen 01:08, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I believe the fact he dresses in women's clothing makes him a cross-dresser, unless I am misinterpreting the meaning of the term, his/her gender, or whether or not men tend to wear high-heeled shoes and make-up.Gigawolf1 (talk) 23:49, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

Well, all the images have been removed. I don't think we're going to be able to get them all back (this has been happening across Wikipedia), but two shouldn't be excessive, so I have restored Image:G-L - Government.jpg and Image:Gurren-Lagann - Gurren Brigade Group.jpg, since they aren't "non-free image galleries" --Transfinite (Talk | Contribs) 02:23, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Names of Characters and Villages

edit

Sorry. I just had to put these here.

http://img172.imageshack.us/my.php?image=scandf8.jpg - In this scan, there is a cover for the first volume of the manga (which has been running in Dengeki Comic Gao for some time now) and there's English text on it that spells the name of Simon and Kamina's village as "Giha".

http://img300.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rittonarexampleyn3.jpg - Fans have been able to but haven't finished putting together the alphabet present in the Gurren-Lagann series. However, even with this slight lack of knowledge, we are still quite able to read a sash that Yoko was wearing in episode 26 in a fantasy where she was "Miss Rittonar". Indeed, the sash reads that, and from that we can get that "Rittonar" is the official English spelling of リットナー. It's also apparent that this one works better than "Ritona", as Ritona would work better for リトナ.

There you have it, the names of the villages are infact officially "Giha" and "Rittonar".

On a sidenote, I'll be putting this same message in the talk pages for the main article and primary character pages, and I will be correcting the names. Just a note, that the names of the characters are written in Western order, and Simon and Yoko don't have last names. Neither would Kamina for that matter, as he died before anybody took up village names as last names. Robtf 09:19, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just an observation, but the name of Yoko's village was pronounced at Litner in the dub; perhaps some sort of note should be made regarding that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyberlink420 (talkcontribs) 02:07, 30 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Gimmy and Darry

edit

What's the source for the claim that they're twins? As far as I know, all that was established was that they were both orphans from Adai around the same age who were usually seen together. --Shay Guy (talk) 03:52, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
