South Korean subdivision flags may be trademarked and copyrighted

commons:Commons:Deletion_requests/2006/09#Symbol_marks_of_Administrative_divisions_in_South_Korea reports that South Korean subdivision flags may be trademarked and copyrighted. As an admin here and of Wikimedia Commons, please consider claiming fair use at appropriate articles when no proof can prove these flags free of copyright restriction.--Jusjih 16:45, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:RoK MND logo.svg

Image:RoK MND logo.svg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

new images of local flags

A lot of them look more like corporate banners or tourist-promotion logos than government flags... AnonMoos (talk) 09:06, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

According to the FOTW site, there were older provincial flags which were more abstractly geometric. AnonMoos (talk) 09:56, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Redundant articles?

List of Korean flags is pretty much the same as this article, but with the DPRK national flag and the Olympic Unification flag... AnonMoos (talk) 06:39, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

I believe we have the military flags for the DPRK on the Commons and I damn well remember I made a vector image of the Korean Worker's Party (the main party of the DPRK). User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:21, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
If a few additional flags are added to the other page, and nothing else is changed, there will still be a large degree of overlap between the two pages... AnonMoos (talk) 14:37, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
If you suggest a merge, I won't object. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 22:11, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
I am strongly in favor a merge, there is no reason for these to articles to be separate. Charles Essie (talk) 23:09, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
Strong oppose per WP:NPOV : each entity (North and South Korea) claims the entire territory known as "Korea", the the "Flag of Korea" shouldn't be automatically associated with the flag of a claimant. --Omar-toons (talk) 01:06, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
Oppose: Korea and South Korea are two separate things. Illegitimate Barrister (talk) 11:57, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
  • That's beside the point, they're all "Korean flags" and the contents of the two pages are completely redundent. Charles Essie (talk) 04:02, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
Support There's no point repeating ourselves. By merging the two articles we wouldn't be associating the "Flag of Korea" with anything. Instead we'd be calling both the North Korean and the South Korean flags Korean flags (along with other Korean flags). Sure Korea, South Korea and North Korean are different things. Should we have three different articles (or perhaps more)? List of Korean flags doesn't seem big enough to split in three. Jimp 10:19, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

File:Mnd mark.gif Nominated for speedy Deletion

An image used in this article, File:Mnd mark.gif, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request
