Talk:List of Silent Hill characters/Archive 1

Travis

I dont see why Travis doesnt have a proper article, he is to have appeared in 2 games yet all he has is a small section, and Cynthia (who was seen in game for what? 20 mintues has a full blown article Ant parker (talk) 04:05, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Character names in Silent Hill: Homecoming

I've updated Alex's last name to Shepard, as depicted on the logo for the game. I also removed Elle's last name... "for privacy's sake let's call her...Lisa S. No, that's too obvious...uuuh, let's say L. Simpson..." Obvious Simpson's reference. Good one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.214.225.238 (talk) 05:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Characters vs. Monsters and such

Ok, I removed the paragraph about Valtiel, him not really being a main story character and all. But really because the name is disagreeing with me.

I've read several stories that "Valtiel" is a name given to him by a fan that just became popularly accepted and the character was never officially named. I'm going to look for an article to back this up and I'll post the link to it.

Also, Pyramid Head should be removed as he fits more into the monster category on the page for the Silent Hill Monsters. So, he's over there now. TotalTommyTerror 18:46, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

May have been for nothing. Valtiel's back. --Thaddius 23:43, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

This is a bad idea.

This entire section is nowhere near comprehensive. Some of the information listed is so vague as to be completely worthless, and several key characters (Ernest Baldwin, Stanley, Valtiel, etc) are completely absent.

In order to make this section actually meaningful, it SHOULD be split up into a bunch of such pages for each character in the vein of the Street Fighter characters article.

And yes, Valtiel is the monster's real name. The official Silent Hill III strategy guide states it as such. And as a symbolic monster, Valtiel does belong in some section or another.--67.173.63.91 07:26, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

Valtiel is the name of that bobble-headed creature, but is not necessarily the god\being that is causing all this. It certainly isn't the creature Heather is carrying (I'm sure you'll agree that). --Thaddius 19:48, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Movie

What is the movie doing here? It's complete chaos! 84.10.229.124 11:32, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

I was going to move the Movie info to the movie section, but it's already there pretty much word for word. Section deleted!

It is requested that this article (or a section of this article) be expanded

Do you really mean that??? Or is that just bullshit????

  • It is. Don't listen to it.

Birth Years

There is no concrete evidence in the games of when they take place, so these aren't official they are just someone's interpretation of the timeline. Should they be reworded?

Sefiros 23:18, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

  • I agree 100%. I mean I see various edits where people's interpretation are being randomly plugged in. Harry Mason was born in 1954... no wait in today's edit the year of his birth is 1951... No sources are ever left. I say leave them out until something official can be found.--SHFan06 06:56, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
  • If I remember correctly there was a date in Alessa's Diary (Silent Hill 1, I don't think the excerpt in SH3 has the date listed) which in which the final entry couldn't have been written more than a day before Harry reads it. Basing other peoples ages around that, and linking that Alessa is 14 at the time of writing, at least a few character's ages and/or approximate dates/years of birth could be found. I'm too busy right now to find this out specifically, and I can't seem to find a fansite which lists that memo. Getting ahold of that memo could shed some light on this topic, anyone willing to look for it or should I try to clear up some time in my schedule for it? -- Moggy 00:41, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Heh, well look at that, I found it. Here are the last two entries.

April 19, 1986 - I have no choice but to get out of this place. A valuable pendant, which I especially like, I wear around my neck. Does it look good on me? Results in tomorrow's entry.

April, 1986 - It would be better for "myself" to die. After all, it's nothing to be afraid of. That child... that demon. When I think of the endless pain it will bring when it is birthed. I decided that, instead of the suffering and cruelty I endured in that sick room. That I would like to bestow a more gentle and peaceful death on "myself". Why do "I" resist? I never thought of "myself" as such a fool.

I'd assume the last entry was made on the 20th, which is possibly the day that SH1 takes place on, though it could be anywhere from the 19th to the 30th. Hope this sheds some light on this topic. -- Moggy 00:51, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

That is a believable memo as the second entry is repeated verbatim (except for the month/year) in SH3.

  • I don't know where tha ages of characters come from but it seems wrong, at least for some characters.

For example It has been stated that James was born in 1965 and Mary was born in 1969, but as we know the town has been possessed some time before 1983 (due to date stated for events of the first game), so it's the last year they could be there, which James was 18 and Mary was 14. So as you see, these ages are so much young for married people!

I don't understand where the dated entries mentioned above come from. The first Silent Hill game, really? I can't seem to find them... 88.161.129.43 (talk) 06:22, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Where in Silent Hill 1 is Alessa's diary? Seeing as it mentions the pendant worn by Heather in Silent Hill 3, I doubt it is actually in the first game. Coozins (talk) 01:04, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Like I said in my comment above, I had my doubts about that as well, and I just checked a Japanese official guide of mine that lists and details all the "documents" of the game... No surprise: it's not there.
I believe I heard something about one (or two?) such documents that were added to the European version of the game, or something along those lines. So I guess there might still be that possibility. But I'm extremely skeptical. 88.161.129.43 (talk) 18:53, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
So I looked into it and found this. According to Nightwalker83, there is a "PAL exclusive file," and it is the dated version of Alessa's diaries we've been talking about.
But.
Darkly Noon here is skeptical. And so am I.
Here's another thread that discusses this "exclusive file" thing, if you're interested... It doesn't sound like they're talking about this supposed "dated Alessa's diary." I suspect that's internet lore. 88.161.129.43 (talk) 19:37, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
For anyone who's still interested: This here is the "exclusive" file that is mentioned so often - it does contain dates, but Harry doesn't read them, so no actual dates are given. The thing about Alessa's diary in the first game is just a rumor, I guess. Prime Blue (talk) 08:16, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
It is not a rumor. It is simply attributed to the incorrect source. Alessa's Diary, with dates, appears in the Silent Hill Play Novel. There is only one accurate Silent Hill Chronology out there, and you can find it here. The creator annotates the entire list, dates everything, and explains exactly how he came up with the dates he uses. --Ryan (talk) 12:49, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Paragraphing

The article suffered a bit from being a solid wall of text. I added some paragraphing and spaced out the descriptions slightly to make it easier to read. It's not perfect though and can probably be improved upon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abigsmurf (talkcontribs)

Rewrite

I think this article needs one. The character descriptions just strike me as being a bit... awkward to read. "Harry Mason is a writer whose wife died 3 years ago and is now single." to cite an example. I'll attempt to do a bit of work on it, but I'd appreciate some help. My writing skills can only stretch so far. Dan 10:26, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Looking at the Minor Characters (with names) section, I believe that format could stand to be used throughout the article. It might make it a bit easier on the eyes, I think. Dan 10:28, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

I've rewritten the first Harry Mason. As he has his own article, it's redundant repeating the in-game information here. I've stripped it down to real-world context (per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction)). In this format, in which game appearances are explicitly stated, we can even abandon the main headers and have a straight list. Marasmusine 08:13, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Splitting

Would it be worth it to try and split this article into detailed game-specific lists, as is the model set by Resident Evil? A few of the more minor characters would also be merged into such articles. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 17:52, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Sounds like a good plan to me. --健次(derumi)talk 17:55, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
I think it will be easier to make this decision after each paragraph has been cleaned up and referenced. Marasmusine 07:53, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
I've already made a bit of a start by creating a test page for SH2's characters --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 14:52, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Silent Hill character template

I have made a test subject for Silent Hill Characters only, this will be used for it, so can I create the template? Demon Hunter Rules() 17:01, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
