Taxonomy edit

Who's taxonomy is this anyway? It's not ITIS and not even the EMBL. Personally, I've become a big ITIS supporter; it's a US Government project (Smithsonian Institution), the most heavily researched taxonomy project I know of and therefore the most authoritative. Plus, it's on-line and there's a checklist for snakes you can buy that goes with it (McDiarmid et al., 1999). ITIS together with this checklist are the primary taxonomic reference that I've used for the articles in the Viperinae section. --Jwinius 12:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I just removed Hydriphiidae, since nobody outside Wikipedia seems to think this name is valid anymore, but this list still does not follow any particular taxonomy. Aren't there any snake people here who figure stuff like this ought to be set straight? If so, I suggest we follow these two lists (infraorders) of snake families according to ITIS: Alethinophidia and Scolecophidia. I'd be interested to hear if anybody has an opinion. --Jwinius 15:42, 4 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
