Merge edit

In this list, we can merge the Sanrio characters failing WP:FICTION. The idea comes from this discussion. It seems to be a common practice. We can discuss here the articles to be merged. CenariumTalk 21:35, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've done quite a few more merges. Additionally, this whole list needs a complete rewrite to focus on the real world aspects of this marketing characters, not the fictional backgrounds made up for them. It also needs a better lead, and references. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 02:12, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The caption needs to be fixed edit

The caption under the picture at the top doesn't name the guy between carriages with the green face or the kid at the end of the train. This then leads to confusion as to the names of the characters who appear after the green-faced one. (Huey45 (talk) 08:04, 17 June 2010 (UTC))Reply

Look at the source the picture comes from: http://europe.sanriotown.com/meetchar.php?lang=en It requires flash, but if you hover with the mouse pointer over each character it shows their names. The green face is not a character, but a balloon with a smiley face that Pochacco is holding. The kid at the end of the train is Minna no Tabo, who is mentioned in the caption. Character Listing edit

Since there are more than 400 characters, should we need to use this database as a source? All we have is actually half the list.--Blackgaia02 (Talk if you're Worthy) (talk) 11:37, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I was just looking up Pink No Corisu, which isn't here, so.. I don't think I realized there are ~400 characters, but maybe we should mention this is not an exhaustive list, if we aren't going to add all ~400. Glimmerville (talk) 20:51, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Official English character bios edit

Sanrio used to have a lot of English language character bios up on sanrio.co.jp. Many of these can still be found at archive.org. Good as convenience sources for verifying creation year, the basics of bios, and official English spelling/romanization. A few also have real world information. Listing of these up to approx 2012 at archive.org (enter index.html in the filter for cleaner listing.) Puroland.jp also had brief character bios up until approx 2021: archive.org listing. Found more, old "timeline" profiles from sanrio.com which go more in depth with friends/family: 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s. Also in-depth "Friend of the Month" profiles are still up at sanrio.com , but also archived at archive.org, enter "month" in the filter. Siawase (talk) 17:42, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Selection criteria edit

Per WP:LISTCRITERIA stand-alone lists (like this one) should have selection criteria. Based on the policy at WP:NOTPLOT, for this list I would suggest removing characters where the only available content and references are from Sanrio's fictional bios.

Accordingly, I would suggest removing these characters from the list: Peter Davis (1978), WinkiPinki (1986), Kappa Rumba (1988), Pippo (1993), Pink no Corisu (1998), Landry (1999), Deery Lou (2002), Chibimaru (2003), Dokidoki Yummychums (2003), Pannapitta (2003), Miss Bear's Dream (2010).

This would also mean not adding new characters only sourced to Sanrio's fictional bios, but of course if more sources are found, characters can be restored or added. Any thoughts or comments on this are very welcome. Siawase (talk) 09:30, 7 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Did the removal as per the above, diff: [1]. Notes on a few of the removed entries for future reference:
  • Kappa Rumba had a fairly long summary of his fictional bio that could be worth restoring if additional sources are found.
  • Chibimaru has an article on Japanese Wikipedia, ja:ちびまる, but that has no real world info. It has a mention of a manga, but I could find no reference to it outside Wikipedia.
  • Dokidoki Yummychums had an unsourced mention of appearing in Supercute Adventures, but I was unable to find a reference for it.
  • Miss Bear's Dream is based on/related to an earlier character called Mr Bear's Dream.[2][3] But I was unable to find real world info for either of them.
Again, any thoughts or comments are very welcome. Siawase (talk) 10:42, 28 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Do you know a Character that look evil edit

Look like a Armadillo and maybe a Elephant that looks evil or mighty 2603:8090:906:A6C6:CC0E:176B:7FD1:356B (talk) 03:32, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

You are probably thinking about Baku, Kuromi's sidekick. I added a bit about him to Kuromi's entry here: List of Sanrio characters#Kuromi (2005) Siawase (talk) 07:19, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Butterfly effect on Kuromi edit

Since I consider Kuromi a white "dwarf" rabbit and decided to write something on her section, It caused a butterfly effect that her fans consider her as one. I always see the sub of Onegai My Melody that Kuromi is being called a "Dwarf", the sub might not be accurate after all. Not sure what you mean by "sub" but I removed the dwarf part from here almost a year ago as unverifiable[4] so there is nothing more to do be done on Wikipedia, as far as I can tell. Siawase (talk) 06:30, 29 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Kuromi's Species edit

In this Wiki, and most online fansites, Kuromi is listed as being a white (imp-like) rabbit. however, in the official sources I could find, such as the Japanese[5] and American [6] Sanrio sites, they do not specify her species. Where does the claim that she is a rabbit come from? Is it assumed based on My Melody's species? 90.242.95.44 (talk) 02:20, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

See for example this old cached version of Sanrio's Japanese site where characters are classified by species, and Kuromi is classified as a rabbit: [7] Siawase (talk) 08:30, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
