2022 Update edit

I've been editing the page frequently recently, the talk page data was all taken care, so to clean up the area I've removed old requests/no longer relevant conversations. The following two bits were left; 1. Uncertain what this 1st bit intended to request, so it's wished someone clarify or dismiss. It may refer to a desired template(it was page top) . The 2nd discussion is over alphabetization, which I have worked on recently to solve the dilemma of what to do. Real names & pet-name derivatives(Roberto,Robert/Robby,Robbie/Rob,Bob) alphabetize by Last name, stage names & non-derivative pet names(like Bootsy Collins), don't. This helps investigator type R&B fans differentiate between performers, finding the name(out of order)is a tip: title is stage name. eARTspI . TOK . 3bs 22:03, 15 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

2. Is this list edit

supposed to be in alphabetical order? Because it is painful to look at. Einar Carptrash (talk) 02:17, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Carptrash: looks like it, but there are different approaches to alphabetical order which people don't often check for. You can fix it as well as anyone else, though :P — Rhododendrites talk \\ 17:53, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Rhododendrites: This looks like about a 4 hour fixing and I am not sure that once I cut Britany Spears out to move her that I would be able to paste her back in. R&B? I understand alternative alphabetizing, I like to use Icelandic alphabetizing, which is by first name, but am comfortable doing it by last name, which is what I intend to do here. I also understand that if I want something done on wikipedia I do it myself. I also struggle a lot with the conundrum, "if something is not worth doing is it worth doing well?" Okay, so let's talk a bit about when an artist is listed by her or his first name and when by the last name. If, for example, someone adopts the stage name Abc Def, then they get listed as A, but if that happens to be their real name, then they are listed as D. I am not pushing this , it just seems as if that's what someone here is already sort of doing. Carptrash (talk) 00:40, 12 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Carptrash: I'm not sure what you mean regarding "able to paste her back in". Are you talking about a bug (with e.g. Visual Editor)? I would say go with whatever method you prefer, as the manual of style doesn't prescribe one particular way. I ran into the question recently at list of hip hop artists -- I have a hard time bringing myself to order by first name, but the hassle of figuring out whether something is a "real" first name or a stage name led me to be inconsistent in a few places, I think. To me the strongest argument in favor of first letter/first name organization is that you could just copy/paste the whole list into e.g. Notepad++ and have it order everything. You'd still have to take care of the leading articles (The/A/An.. -- I presume Icelandic doesn't alphabetize by those?), but may save some effort overall. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 01:49, 12 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Rhododendrites: Sorry R, I forgot you don't know me. What I mean about Ms Spears is that I am an old fart and do not consider her to be R&B at all, so having cut her out to move her might be inclined to remove her from the list. I tend to skip all articles. I have no idea what your Notepad suggestion refers to other than some handy computer shortcut that I am not likely to use.
