Merge proposal

edit

I suggest merging this article in its current form and List of Neighbours characters introduced in 2023 into List of Neighbours characters introduced in 2023–2024, and starting a new article at List of Neighbours characters introduced in 2024–2025 going forward. This is because Amazon Prime/Freevee are treating each year of 200 episodes as distinct seasons, as (finally) apparent from the new "Season 2024" that starts with today's episode. • Oppose – this is the same as American soap operas (e.g. Days of Our Lives just started "Season 60") but some of them still use yearly lists (rather than decades list) and I think this is the same year. The format for every other year has been a calendar year rather than a season so I think it should stay the same, making it consistent with Neighbours itself and other soaps – they all have seasons but they just don't advertise it the same. If it was done by season (e.g. "List of characters introduced in season x") I would be less opposed, but seeing "2023–2024" and then "2024–2025" would just confuse readers. Also, changing it would make the page extremely long to read due to the amount of characters and storylines and would require a lot if cleanup to dozens of links, and I don't think it's worth it. Understandable points. Just on the last matters you raise, the proposed article would cover a twelve month period, the same as all other yearly Neighbours character lists (the current 2023 article is noticeably shorter than average), and with redirects already in place for all sections/anchors the cleanup to fix double redirects would be bot performed. I understand that it would still be over a 12 month period, but the 2024 list has a lot of characters currently whilst the 2023 list has a lot of information.DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 14:01, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oppose - I think we already have a simple way of grouping the characters in line with yearly dates. I can understand why you proposed it but I do not see any benefit from merging. Lets remain consistent and use years to group the characters. We are nearly 40 years into these lists - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.Rain the 1 13:12, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
