Part of of personal project to describe all Irish Michelin starred restaurants. Eddylandzaat (talk) 17:06, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've tagged it "List" for the Irl Proj - are you OK with that? Sarah777 (talk) 08:01, 7 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reverse the order of this list edit

The current order is:

  • 1971–1980
  • 1981–1990
  • 1991–2000
  • 2001–2010
  • 2011–present

Would it not be better to be:

  • 2011–present
  • 2001–2010
  • 1991–2000
  • 1981–1990
  • 1971–1980

When one visits this page, you are probably most interested in the restaurants which currently hold a star. With the layout as-is, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to get this info.

Reversing the order would fix this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Barryred (talkcontribs) 13:12, 3 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Changes to layout edit

It might better to have two tables; one for currently open restaurants and one for former, modeled on List of Michelin 3-star restaurants in the United Kingdom / List of Michelin starred restaurants in Scotland. It would be easier to keep track of, rather than having multiple decade tables. Each restaurant would have one entry in the relevant table rather than multiple entries in multiple tables at present.

The List of former restaurants could be like this sample:

Restaurant Location       Ref.
Year to star
Armstrong's Barn Annamoe 1978
Arbutus Lodge Cork 1974–1983,
1987–1988
Ballylickey House Ballylickey 1975
Ballymaloe House Shanagarry 1975–1980
The Russell Hotel Dublin 1974
Cashel Palace Hotel Cashel 1982–1983
Chez Hans Cashel 1983
Dunderry Lodge Navan 1986–1989
Park
(Park Hotel)
Kenmare 1983–1990,
1994–1999
Thornton's Dublin 1996–2000 2001–2002
Thornton's
(Fitzwilliam Hotel)
Dublin 2006–2015 2003–2005

Tables would also be sortable by name, location, stars, and year. Spleodrach (talk) 07:20, 26 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose The development in stars and locations is gone straight away. Makes the list unclear. The Banner talk 10:14, 26 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I would be in favour of a table showing the last 10 years for the current star holders (like what is already there), there would have to be a column showing then they were awarded their first star for those who have had a star more than 10 years. And then a table similar to above for the former holders (remove the 3* column until there is a 3* restaurant in Ireland). ~ Ablaze (talk) 06:49, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I think something like that could work. Spleodrach (talk) 11:55, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
And the history of Michelin stars in Ireland will be sacrificed? The Banner talk 13:21, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
No, the history would be in the former table, which would look like the example above. This is based on the UK Michelin list, not something I've made up. Spleodrach (talk) 15:00, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Why not use List of Michelin starred restaurants in the Netherlands as an example? It works, it is clear, so why change it? The Banner talk 17:01, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Because the layout is almost the same as this one, so it's poor and hard to navigate. So basically you're suggesting not to change this article, because there is another article that you created and edited it quite alot. Spleodrach (talk) 19:17, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
So, you just cherry pick examples to hide that there are other options available? No you are playing the owner of this article. The Banner talk 19:42, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
In the interests of compromise (and boldness), I've changed the 2020 table to current and kept the history by decade tables. So, the current table will always be up-to-date and, say in 5 years time, it will reflect 2025, and the most recent group by decade will contain 2020-2024, and all the other history tables as well. I hope this compromise is acceptable. Spleodrach (talk) 20:59, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
