I'm removing John Graves Simcoe because he wasn't by any definition an American Loyalist, he was simply a Briton and a professional officer of the regular British Army. He was born in Britain, came to the thirteen colonies purely as a member of the British army whose regiment was stationed in America, and in no way settled in the land that would become the United States; his appointment, as an officer of the regulars, to command an elite Loyalist unit was in line with many of his peers, none of whom are considered Loyalists: Patrick Ferguson, Banastre Tarleton, Lord Rawdon; and his later appointment as lieutenant governor of Upper Canada wasn't equivalent to the local judicial offices given to, say, Jonathan Sewell or William Smith but rather was part of the normal career trajectory of a senior British Army officer, being made the voice of the Crown and the supreme executive authority in an imperial outpost.
